Job Description

We are looking for a Head of Development to lead the Software Development Department within our Distribution domain. In this role, you will be responsible for driving development processes, building high-performing teams, and ensuring the successful delivery of software solutions that support the evolving needs of the energy sector.

You will play a critical leadership role, working closely with Product Management, Sales, and Support functions to align priorities, maximize synergies, and deliver high-quality, scalable solutions to the market.

As Head of Development, you will own and drive software development across all teams, applications, and services within the Distribution department. You will be accountable for what gets built, when it gets delivered, and how it is developed.

You will also act as a key counterpart to the Head of Product Distribution, ensuring alignment between product strategy and development execution.

The Distribution area operates at two speeds, which helps with transparency, and we're seeking candidates experienced with both advanced SaaS solutions and stable on-premises systems.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Product Management and business stakeholders to understand market needs, product roadmap, and quality requirements
  • Build, develop, and continuously evolve high-performing development teams
  • Motivate across two types of R&D teams
  • Drive AI adoption within Distribution R&D
  • Allocate resources dynamically to balance team stability with changing priorities
  • Ensure the right competencies, roles, and skills are in place, supporting ongoing development and training
  • Establish and maintain best-in-class development processes, aligned with agile practices and continuous improvement
  • Define and improve methods for estimation, planning, and execution of development initiatives
  • Ensure transparency, coordination, and collaboration across teams and departments
  • Drive high standards in security, quality, and reliability across all products and services
  • Collaborate closely with platform teams, QA, and other development units
  • Ensure delivery of projects on time, within scope, budget, and quality expectations
  • Manage dependencies, including third-party and open-source components
  • Monitor and optimize development and testing costs, including cloud usage
  • Hold overall responsibility for the department's cost center and budget
  • Lead and support people management responsibilities within the team structure
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with stakeholders across the organization

What you Bring to Be Successful

  • MSc or BSc in Computer Science or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in software development, including at least 5 years in a leadership role
  • Strong understanding of the full software development lifecycle, from concept to delivery
  • Proven experience working closely with product organizations
  • Strong business mindset with focus on cost, value creation, and time-to-market
  • Deep knowledge of agile methodologies, including estimation, prioritization, and progress tracking
  • Solid technical understanding, with the ability to contribute to design and architectural discussions
  • Experience with requirements engineering
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Proven ability to resolve conflicts, influence decisions, and drive alignment
  • Strategic thinker with a hands-on, problem-solving mindset
  • Ability to manage complexity and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Track record of delivering high-quality products on time and within budget
  • Experience in the energy or distribution domain is an advantage
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken
