Approximately 21,000 employees across Europe (source: group.vattenfall.com). Revenue of €16.5 billion in FY 2023 (source: energydigital.com).

What They Do

Vattenfall is a leading European energy company focused on renewable energy production and distribution. The company has a rich history that began with hydroelectric power and has evolved to include a diverse portfolio of energy sources, including offshore and onshore wind, nuclear power, and heat networks. Vattenfall operates approximately 139,000 km of power lines in Sweden, serving around 900,000 customers, and is recognized as the second largest energy company in Sweden and the largest offshore wind operator in Denmark (source: group.vattenfall.com). Their commitment to fossil-free electricity and heat production is evident in their ongoing projects and strategic focus on transitioning away from fossil fuels.

Projects & Track Record

Vattenfall has a notable track record of significant projects, including the historic Olidan hydroelectric plant in Trollhättan, which was Sweden's largest by the early 1900s, and the Porjus Power Plant, operational since 1915. In recent years, they have expanded their offshore wind capabilities with projects like Horns Rev 1 and 3 in Denmark, and the Vesterhav North and South farms, which opened in autumn 2024. Additionally, Vattenfall has developed nine hydro power plants in Finland and has been involved in 13 wind and battery storage projects in the UK since 2008, showcasing their commitment to renewable energy across multiple regions (source: history.vattenfall.com). Their ongoing projects include the Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm in Denmark and the Korsnäs offshore wind farm in Finland, which supports carbon neutrality goals by 2035.

Recent Developments

In the past two years, Vattenfall has celebrated its 115th anniversary, emphasizing its commitment to fossil-free energy and announcing plans to phase out coal by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2040 under the leadership of CEO Anna Borg. The company has also successfully opened the Vesterhav North and South offshore wind farms in Denmark in autumn 2024, marking a significant milestone in their renewable energy initiatives (source: group.vattenfall.com). While no specific new contracts or acquisitions were reported for 2023-2024, Vattenfall continues to focus on its operational milestones and ongoing developments in offshore wind energy.

Working There

Vattenfall offers a variety of roles across its operations, including energy production in hydro, wind, and nuclear sectors, as well as grid operations and retail services. The company employs approximately 500 staff in Denmark and the UK, focusing on offshore wind and heat networks, and has active hiring in locations such as Solna (Sweden HQ), Kolding (Denmark HQ), and various cities in the UK and Finland (source: group.vattenfall.com). The company culture is characterized by long-term state ownership, fostering stability and collaboration, particularly through historic Nordic power coordination efforts that date back to its founding in 1909. This culture supports Vattenfall's adaptation to energy transitions and its commitment to promoting fossil-free energy solutions.

Job Description

Are you ready to play a leading role in advancing the energy transition?

As Head of Contract Management within our Engineering function at BA Wind, you will help us take decisive steps towards becoming less dependent on fossil fuels. Strong, forward‑looking contract management is essential to secure high‑quality project delivery in offshore wind and in this role, you will lead the teams that make it possible.

You will head a senior organisation that includes Commercial Contract Managers and Claims Managers who are responsible for negotiating and executing all major CAPEX supply contracts across our offshore wind portfolio. Your leadership will ensure that contracts are proactively managed, commercially optimised and tightly connected to business cases, risk processes and controlling activities. At the same time, you will drive a best‑practice approach to claims management, ensuring issues are identified early and mitigated to protect project value.

This role also establishes the strategic function within Vattenfall: a team of DMA and CMA managers who deliver development and construction services to our joint ventures. Because JV delivery introduces additional commercial and organisational complexity, you will shape the processes, systems and governance needed to ensure PD&E delivers its services effectively, transparently and in line with contractual obligations. If you are motivated by building teams, implementing new ways of working and shaping how offshore wind joint‑venture services are delivered, this might be your next step. Join us and contribute your leadership as we work together to enable fossil freedom through strategic collaboration and forward‑thinking solutions.

What will you do?

In this role, you will lead a senior multi‑disciplinary team covering contract management, claims management, commercial optimisation and joint‑venture service delivery. Beyond managing the existing scope, you will develop and implement a new JV delivery model for PD&E ensuring our department is recognised as a key partner in development and construction within all offshore wind joint ventures.

You will oversee the drafting, negotiation and execution of major CAPEX contracts and develop your Contract Managers to work proactively and commercially across all project phases. You will ensure Claims Managers are fully embedded in each project, enabling early mitigation of risks and protection against cost and schedule deviations.

A central part of your role is to establish and lead DMA and CMA managers who deliver development and construction services to our joint ventures. These managers will be embedded in each project's PMT and act as PD&E's service representatives under the Development and Construction Management Agreements. You will ensure contractual compliance, high‑quality reporting, strong communication with PMT/PMO and close cooperation with Controlling to optimise both costs and revenues generated under these agreements. You will also support PMT and JV stakeholders in presenting complex technical and commercial decisions clearly and accurately to JV partners.

Your responsibilities further include shaping and improving the processes and systems required for delivering services to joint ventures, ensuring PD&E is represented in partnering processes, and collaborating with the JV SLA and JV Management functions to ensure the right commercial scope, risk allocation and decision‑making frameworks are in place. You will additionally drive insurance and contract claims matters on behalf of the joint ventures within agreed mandates.

Through transparent leadership, stakeholder alignment and strong commercial discipline, you will help shape the future of offshore wind at Vattenfall enabling successful delivery across every project and strengthening PD&E's position in our JV landscape.

Qualifications

You have a strong academic background in business, engineering or a related field, ideally with a master's degree or PhD. Over at least ten years, you have developed your expertise in managing complex joint ventures and partnerships within large organisations. You are highly experienced in commercial contract management and understand the intricacies of delivering development and construction projects particularly within renewable energy on time and to high standards.

We are looking for someone who combines strategic thinking with operational discipline. Your profile includes:

  • Deep experience leading senior, multidisciplinary teams: You know how to build trust, set direction and motivate specialists towards shared goals.
  • Mastery of contract management and claims handling: You navigate complex agreements confidently, supporting successful project delivery from start to finish.
  • Proficiency in budget oversight and cost optimisation: You keep a close eye on costs while identifying opportunities to maximise value for all partners involved.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken): Essential for clear communication across international teams.
  • Ability to embed new processes and ways of working: You drive change by introducing systems that enable continuous improvement.

You thrive when influencing stakeholders beyond your direct authority-your collaborative approach builds strong relationships both inside and outside the organisation. As an effective leader during turbulent times, you remain positive, pragmatic and focused on solutions. Your enthusiasm is contagious; you bring out the best in your team by fostering open dialogue, sharing knowledge openly, and encouraging others to push boundaries with you.

If you get excited by driving commercial success through collaboration, shaping new approaches to offshore wind project delivery, and playing a pivotal role in accelerating fossil freedom-this is your opportunity.
