Job Description
Fuse Energy is a forward-thinking renewable energy startup on a mission to deliver a terawatt of renewable energy - fast. We're combining first-principles thinking with cutting-edge technology to build a radically better energy system. We raised $170M from top-tier investors including Multicoin, Balderton, Lakestar, Accel, Creandum, Lowercarbon, Ribbit, Box Group and strategic angels like Nico Rosberg, the Co-Founder of Solana and GPs behind Meta, Revolut, Spotify, Uber and more.
We're creating a fully integrated energy company: from developing solar, wind and hydrogen projects to real-time power trading and distributed energy installations. By selling directly to consumers, we cut out the middleman, lower costs and pass on savings to customers.
But we're not stopping there. We're also building the Energy Network: a decentralised platform of smart devices that rewards users in Energy Dollars for electrifying their homes, shifting usage to off-peak hours, and helping balance the grid. This network strengthens grid stability - a critical foundation for scaling AI data centers and other energy-intensive industries.
Purpose
The Design Engineer will lead the design and optimisation of utility-scale solar and BESS projects across the UK, supporting projects from early-stage development through to construction handover.
This role is responsible for producing high-quality, buildable, and cost-optimised designs, ensuring alignment with grid requirements, planning constraints, and EPC delivery needs. The position will work closely with Engineering, Development, and Construction teams to ensure designs are practical, compliant, and ready for execution.
This position reports to the Engineering Manager.

- Support co-location of solar and BESS systems
Development Engineering
- Produce site layouts, SLDs, and core engineering documentation
- Maintain high-quality drawings and structured design records
- Support site feasibility, layout optimisation, and planning submissions
- Contribute to technical due diligence for new projects and acquisitions
Grid & Technical Integration
- Support grid connection design in line with DNO/TSO requirements
- Coordinate and review grid studies with external consultants
- Ensure compliance with UK Grid Code, G99/G100, and relevant standards
Engineering Deliverables & Procurement
- Prepare and review layouts, SLDs, cable schedules, and specifications
- Produce BoQs and support technical inputs to procurement
- Ensure designs are accurate, coordinated, and buildable
- Apply component knowledge and manufacturer specifications
Development to Construction Handover
- Ensure designs are complete and de-risked prior to construction
- Support handover to EPC teams with clear, robust design packages
- Incorporate construction feedback to improve buildability
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Work closely with engineering and EPC teams to align design and delivery
- Drive standardisation of designs, templates, and processes
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance performance
