What They Do

Deftpower B.V. is a private cleantech startup focused on developing software for integrating renewable energy sources such as solar and wind energy into electric vehicle (EV) charging. Their technology includes an AI-supported SaaS platform and a white-label mobile application that enables smart charging, allowing vehicles to connect with networks, energy markets, and over 2,000 charging point operators across Europe. This allows them to reduce costs by up to 20% through dynamic pricing and prepare for vehicle-to-grid (V2G) functionality (source: cbinsights.com). Deftpower serves a wide range of clients, including e-mobility service providers, charging point operators, car manufacturers, energy suppliers, and grid operators, and has a platform that processes millions of transactions in 10 European countries (source: deftpower.com). Their products include a branded app for drivers that provides access to over 800,000 charging points, a business portal for electricity trading and fraud prevention, and developer APIs compatible with OCPI and ISO15118 protocols (source: deftpower.com).

Projects & Track Record

Deftpower has built an impressive track record by implementing its platform for over 40 clients managing widespread EV charging solutions. A notable project is the ongoing smart charging trial launched on May 15, 2025, in Amsterdam, designed as a potential model for global cities by optimizing grid load and renewable integration (source: cbinsights.com). Collaboration with over 40 EV brands and 2,000+ charging point operators strengthens their market position, although specific client names have not been disclosed (source: deftpower.com). Deftpower's platform is active in 10 European countries, focusing on expansion funded by their recent €12.5 million funding round (source: 4impact.vc).

Recent Developments

In the past two years, Deftpower secured €12.5 million in funding on August 29, 2025, led by Endeit Capital with participation from 4impact capital, Proeza Ventures, Rethink Mobility, and Jan Fredriks, supported by the EU's InvestEU Fund. This funding is intended to drive European expansion and AI enhancements for their platform (source: 4impact.vc). The Amsterdam smart charging trial, which began on May 15, 2025, marks a significant milestone in the practical implementation of their technology (source: cbinsights.com). So far, no acquisitions, mergers, awards, or additional certifications have been reported in the sources from 2024-2025, although CEO Jacob van Zonneveld's previous role in founding Plugsurfing (acquired by Fortum in 2018) highlights the continuity of leadership (source: vehicle-2-grid.eu).

Working at Deftpower

Deftpower currently has approximately 70 employees, growing from just over 50 previously. Roles include software development (API and backend for EV integrations), product management, sales, business development, customer service, and operations within engineering, IT, and cleantech functions in an agile team structure (source: 4impact.vc). The company has offices in Arnhem and Berlin, focusing on growth in EV software amid European expansion (source: deftpower.com). The company culture emphasizes technical excellence, rapid execution, and creating clarity from the chaos of the industry, with values aimed at stakeholder success, both economically and ecologically (source: deftpower.com). Specific benefits are not documented in public sources.

Job Description

At Deftpower, we're shaping the future of electric charging every single day. Our SaaS-platform helps businesses across Europe make charging simpler, smarter and more sustainable. We're growing fast, thanks to a recent major investment, and there's never a dull moment! We're expanding, improving our technology, and teaming up with companies in over ten countries.

About the team

You join our Business Development team, split between Berlin and Arnhem, where we work closely with our CEO. The goal is to identify new opportunities and build strong partnerships across Europe. The team focuses on market growth, client needs and strategic collaboration that helps scale our smart charging services.

"I've never once looked at my watch hoping the day would be over. Everything I do feels meaningful."

Michael - Business Development Manager

Tim, Operations ''The connection between the charging pole, the car, and our app makes us unique. It's tangible technology anyone can understand.''

Timo, Team Lead "On day 1, after onboarding, you can already deliver something for a customer. You make impact very quickly."

About the job

Regulation can make or break a company like Deftpower. As Business Developer Lobbyist, you're the person who tips that balance in our favour. You translate complex policy developments into concrete business opportunities, build relationships with policymakers, regulators and industry bodies, and make sure Deftpower has a seat at the table where decisions are made.

This isn't a back-office policy role. You combine political intelligence with commercial instinct: spotting which regulatory shifts create strategic advantage, crafting sharp positions and narratives and selling them convincingly to ministers and civil servants as well as our own CEO.

  • Define and own Deftpower's public affairs strategy and policy agenda, at EU level and in priority countries, aligned with our OKRs and product roadmap
  • Identify the policy files that truly matter to us (flexibility markets, data access, interoperability, tariffs, metering, consumer rules) and convert them into measurable quarterly deliverables
  • Maintain a regulatory radar per market: upcoming consultations, legislative timelines, implementation guidance, enforcement trends
  • Provide proactive recommendations to the CEO and management team on regulatory risks, opportunities and decisions required
  • Develop Deftpower's policy positions, narratives and evidence-based proposals: one-pagers, position papers, consultation responses
  • Engage directly with policymakers, regulators and system operators to shape decisions and interpretations that benefit our business model
  • Represent Deftpower in relevant industry coalitions, working groups and public forums

"Everyone is driven to make customers happy, we don't just work for the sake of working."

- Florian, Team Lead

About you

You move comfortably in political and institutional environments, and you understand the commercial logic of a fast-moving tech company. You don't just monitor what's happening in the policy landscape, you actively influence it.

  • Proven experience in public affairs, lobbying or regulatory affairs, preferably in energy or mobility
  • An established network with European or national policymakers and/or energy sector industry bodies
  • Ability to translate complex regulation into clear business impact
  • Experience writing position papers, consultation responses and policy briefs
  • Outstanding communication skills: you can convince both a member of the European Parliament and a sceptical CFO
  • Commercial instinct: you see regulatory shifts as opportunities, not obstacles
  • Fluency in Dutch is required: you'll be operating in the Dutch political and regulatory landscape as a core part of this role

For you

At Deftpower you'll find more than cutting-edge tech, you'll find a team that actually enjoys the ride! Colleagues say we are ambitious, friendly and flexible, with just the right amount of chaos to keep things interesting. Working at Deftpower is both rewarding and challenging. There are many moving parts, partners, suppliers, clients and we are a fast growing company that is still learning.

You get support from talented colleagues and a management team that's close, approachable and ready to roll up their sleeves. You get the space to shape your role, to take initiative, to make real decisions, test ideas, and yes, sometimes break things. We call it 'learning fast'...

  • Salary range: between ???60.000,- and ???85.000 on an annual basis
  • 25 vacations days
  • Choose your own laptop to work with (???1.750,-)
  • A flexible setup: hybrid working, short decision lines and trust
  • ???2.000,- training budget a year

Our values

Drive You love turning ideas into action. You take ownership, push projects forward and get energy from creating solutions that actually work in the real world.

Earnest You do the right thing, especially when no one's watching. You're respectful, honest and reliable, colleagues know they can count on you.

Forward thinking You're curious and not afraid to try new things. You experiment, learn fast and spot opportunities before others see them coming. Calculated risks? You're in.

Transparency You believe sharing is power. You communicate openly, give constructive feedback and make your work visible so the whole team can grow together.
