Job Description
The Continuous Improvement Sr Engineer is responsible for leading and supporting the implementation of Lean Manufacturing initiatives throughout the plant to improve productivity, reduce waste, and optimize processes. This position works closely with area managers, supervisors, and cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement projects, monitor performance metrics, and foster a culture of operational excellence. The Lean Coordinator ensures that Lean principles and tools are effectively applied to achieve production, quality, and efficiency objectives, while supporting the plant's strategic goals.
Required Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation of Lean initiatives in all areas of production and support, ensuring the correct application of tools such as 5S or its equivalent, Kaizen, VSM (Value Stream Mapping), SMED, and Kanban.
- Identify opportunities for improvement in production processes, eliminating waste and optimizing cycle times and resources.
- Coordinate and follow up on continuous improvement projects, from problem identification to the implementation of sustainable solutions.
- Collaborate with managers, supervisors, and cross-functional teams to ensure that Lean practices are aligned with production, quality, and safety objectives.
- Monitor and report key performance indicators (KPIs) related to efficiency, productivity, and waste reduction.
- Facilitate Lean workshops, training, and education for plant operational and administrative staff.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging employee participation in process optimization initiatives.
- Work in accordance with the Integrated Management System (IMS), complying with ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, and 22301 standards.
- Identify improvement projects in new lines delivered to Production, coordinating tests and evaluating results to determine their implementation.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Lean Manufacturing methodologies and continuous improvement (5S, Kaizen, VSM, SMED, Kanban, TPM).
- Management of production processes and material flow in manufacturing plants.
- Key performance indicators (KPIs) for efficiency, productivity, and quality.
- Industrial safety principles and applicable regulations.
- Knowledge of the Integrated Management System (IMS) and ISO standards (9001, 14001, 45001, 22301).
- Analytical skills to identify problems and opportunities for improvement.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written, to interact with multidisciplinary teams.
- Leadership and motivation of teams toward continuous improvement.
- Problem solving and data-driven decision making.
- Organization, planning, and management of multiple projects simultaneously.
- Microsoft Office suite, Minitab (optional)
Accountabilities
- Ensure compliance with quality standards and safety procedures in all improvements implemented.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to productivity, efficiency, cycle times, and waste reduction, reporting deviations to management.
- Keep the procedure related to the Continuous Improvement department up to date. (OPEX)
- Provide calibration and materials for Lean training to instructors.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and Maintenance areas to ensure that Lean initiatives are integrated without affecting production continuity.
- Participate in Lean verification audits, ensuring the implementation of corrective actions when necessary.
- Propose and manage improvement projects that directly impact costs, delivery times, and internal and external customer satisfaction.
Required Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in manufacturing, preferably in the areas of continuous improvement, Lean Manufacturing, or production processes.
- Demonstrable experience in implementing Lean tools (Kaizen, 5S, VSM, SMED, Kanban, TPM, among others).
- Certification in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma (Green Belt or Black Belt), or continuous improvement methodologies is desirable.
- Experience in coordinating multidisciplinary teams and managing process improvement projects.
- Management of productivity, efficiency, and waste reduction indicators.
- Previous experience in high-volume manufacturing companies or the electronics/electrical sector is a plus.
