Moving into a sustainable and carbon-neutral future will require significant changes in the energy sector. Renewable energy and e-mobility bring new challenges for the power grids of the future. Climate change is requiring us to save energy in buildings, factories, hospitals and data centers. At the same time, we need to ensure the longevity of electrical assets (transformers, switching cabinets, etc.) and increase their capacity to reduce asset investment needs. To do this, software products require strong data sources exposed via APIs, powerful AI forecasts and smart decisions/recommendations - packaged business capabilities.

You'll make an impact by

  • Build recommender systems to guide grid planners and grid operators to make grids ready for the future
  • Forecast renewable energy production and energy consumption to optimize factory schedules and efficiency
  • Provide Siemens grid and energy management offerings access to the best data to solve customer problems (e.g., weather, energy prices, ...)
  • You guide and mentor the development team by promoting best practices in coding, architecture, and design. Set a high standard through hands-on development, code reviews, and pair programming.
  • You make critical architecture decisions to ensure scalability, performance, and maintainability of the software, striking a balance between achieving sprint goals and managing technical debt.
  • You drive the architectural vision in line with the product vision, make pragmatic and cost-effective design decisions to ensure product scalability, delivery and maintainability.
  • You collaborate with Product managers and Data/AI experts to access technical complexity and shape a long-term technical vision aligned with the long-term product vision.

You excel in

  • Education
    • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
    • Advanced degrees or certifications in relevant areas (e.g., Machine Learning, Data Analytics, Software architecture & development) are a plus.
  • Experience & Skills
    • 10+ years of experience in software development, with a strong background in Python and Java with a successful track record in building and deploying machine learning and data pipelines via APIs.
    • Proven experience in leading technical teams, preferably in an agile or Scrum-based environment.
    • Hands-on experience in developing data-driven applications and APIs on AWS and knowledge of key technologies (incl. Kafka, TimescaleDB, MLFlow, ...)
    • Experience in the energy sector or with sustainability projects is a plus.
    • Deep understanding of critical data science Python packages (e.g., pandas, numpy, scikit-learn, tensorflow, spacy)
  • Ways of working
    • You are excited to build software that matters with an interdisciplinary team and love to understand and explore the use-cases that your software enables.
  • Languages
    • Proficiency in English and basic conversational ability in German
