Job Description

We are looking to appoint an experienced Project Environmental Manager to support the effective delivery of high-profile HVDC and renewable energy projects across the UK.

This is a key role responsible for managing all environmental aspects across both project delivery and tender phases, ensuring full compliance with contractual requirements, NKT standards, and UK environmental legislation.

The Role

As Project Environmental Manager, you will be responsible for the environmental function across the full project lifecycle. You will work cross-functionally with installation, supply chain, and project management teams, ensuring environmental requirements are fully integrated into all aspects of delivery.

Functionally reporting into the Head Of HS&E, ensuring alignment with corporate environmental strategy, governance, and performance standards, you will act as the environmental lead-both strategically and on site supporting operational teams, engaging with clients, and ensuring environmental requirements are fully embedded into project delivery. This will include line management responsibility for a small team of environmental professionals, providing leadership, guidance, and development support across project activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate environmental activities across project and tender phases
  • Develop and implement Project Environmental Plans in line with contractual and regulatory requirements
  • Provide environmental input into project planning, budgeting, and forecasting across both project and tender phases.
  • Monitor environmental performance, risks, and non-conformities, supporting continuous improvement
  • Coordinate or support audits, inspections, and compliance checks
  • Conduct root cause analysis and ensure corrective actions are implemented for environmental incidents
  • Support risk assessments, HAZID and HAZOP processes to prevent environmental risks
  • Review subcontractor environmental documentation and support supplier qualification
  • Act as the key environmental interface with clients, contractors, and stakeholders
  • Provide environmental input into RAMS and ensure compliance with consents, licences, and CEMP requirements
  • Deliver environmental training and guidance to site teams and contractors
  • Regularly visit operational sites (installation, manufacturing, subcontractors) to monitor compliance and provide support
  • Hold the authority to escalate environmental risks and non-compliance to Project and senior management, and to require cessation of work where environmental standards are not met.
  • Identify gaps in environmental management systems and improve processes, compliance, and performance across the project and the wider organisation.
  • Manage environmental performance monitoring, reporting, and analysis, ensuring clear visibility of risks, trends, and non-conformities to both project and client stakeholders.

About You

We are looking for an experienced, self-motivated environmental professional who is comfortable working in complex, project-led environments.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in Environmental Management
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in Environmental Management
  • Solid background within HVDC, infrastructure or renewable energy projects
  • Fully conversant with UK environmental legislation, permitting and consenting processes
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing environmental plans and procedures
  • Valid CSCS or CCNSG card

Skills & Attributes

  • Solid client-facing experience with the ability to engage at all levels
  • Comfortable managing contractors and multiple stakeholder groups
  • Initiative taking, self-motivated, and results driven
  • Experience supporting both project delivery and tendering activities
  • Well-developed analytical, reporting and communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
