We are currently seeking a Sales Manager in our Louisville, CO location to join North America Sales & Marketing team at Vaisala. This position is a full-time position, eligible for hybrid work. You will be joining a highly motivated team of professionals, responsible for building long-term, profitable business partnerships in the North America weather space.

Our customers are predominantly in the B2G (business-to-government) space, which includes federal, state, and local government agencies, as well as key research institutions and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Vaisala is the "Intel Inside" of the North America Weather Enterprise, with Vaisala observations and environmental intelligence touching and enhancing peoples' lives daily.
What's your role?
This sales position will proactively seek new business opportunities, develop, and maintain existing customer relations, and negotiate and close deals. You will report to the North America Director of Sales.
In this role you will have the opportunity to
- Proactively research new customers and leads, converting them into sales opportunities, and successfully closing the resultant deals.
- Manage customer accounts under the direction of business unit management, and in collaboration with the other sales team members.
- Work closely with internal teams, such as marketing, product management, engineering, and customer service, to ensure customer satisfaction and loyalty.
- Prepare requests for quotation (RFQ), requests for information (RFI) and requests for proposal (RFP) to an extremely high standard in accordance with the Vaisala Sales Process.
- Assist in planning and implementing sales strategies in alignment with Vaisala strategy and market trends, challenges, and opportunities.
- Collect, analyze, and document market information relevant to Vaisala business (on customers, applications, competitors) and report results.
- Establish prices with Sales & Marketing leadership to ensure profitable sales by achieving established financial expectations.
- Provide data to Sales & Marketing leadership for budgeting and action planning, forecasting sales performance and maintaining a robust, healthy sales funnel.
- Support customer visits, trade shows and events. Travel is expected 50% of the time and during normal business and may be as frequent as every other week.
As the successful candidate you will be a self-starting team player, and a curious and creative problem solver. Patient and analytical, you will have a proven track-record brokering winning solutions that mutually benefit all the involved parties and build deep, trust-based lasting partnerships.
What will you bring?
- A bachelor's degree, or equivalent, in engineering, meteorology, atmospheric science, or a related field.
- 3 years of technical sales experience in the weather enterprise or industrial instrumentation sectors, preferably in the B2G space.
- A solid technical background and knowledge of weather observation and forecasting products and solutions.
- Willingness and ability to grow competence by learning relevant industry standards (e.g. WMO, AMS, FAA), as well as market specific issues (culture, customers, competitors).
- Desire to learn the Weather Enterprise, including its market trends, challenges, and opportunities.
- Self-motivated, flexible, and well-organized team player with a positive attitude towards customer service.
- Well-versed proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and CRM tools such as Salesforce.
- Exemplary written & verbal communication and negotiation skills, including presentation and professional, federal and provincial bid submission documentation.
- Available to travel as required and a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken) is a must. Knowledge of other languages of benefit where applicable.
ANTICIPATED TOTAL COMPENSATION RANGE: $116,000 - $148,000 range comprised of annual base salary and the sales bonus plan. Salary is determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
