About the Role

TransAlta is currently seeking an experienced Site Supervisor to join our team at Soderglen.

In this role, you will ensure the safe and reliable operation and maintenance of the Soderglen wind asset by application of operating/maintenance standards, procedures, and processes that ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Reporting to the Manager, Western Canadian Wind & Solar Operations you will develop and implement operations and maintenance strategies and ensure the portfolio adheres to TransAlta's operating model. In addition, this role is accountable to provide leadership through developing, implementing, and managing the business plan.

This is a full-time, safety-sensitive position based at our Soderglen wind farm, located 20 kilometres southwest of Fort Macleod in southern Alberta.

A Day in the Life

  • Ensure optimal performance through daily work scheduling, planning, and implementation of maintenance, service, and managing repair of wind turbine equipment as part of a team capable of producing agreed deliverables
  • Support the operation and maintenance plan in alignment with the Director's business plan, by driving towards optimal operational performance, achieving business results, and embracing continuous improvement
  • Accountable for operational compliance to EHS, NERC, OHS, etc., plant availability, and cost standards through adherence to TransAlta operating procedures, policies, and applicable regulations
  • Strive for results in the areas of safety, compliance, plant availability, and cost by ensuring all routine and preventative maintenance is performed accurately, on time, is of high quality, and clearly documented
  • Adequate training, qualifications, and competency are maintained through development for self and team and ensure compliance with training
  • Ability to identify and mitigate risk that could negatively impact the agreed outcomes or business results, and identify and realize opportunities that could positively impact the agreed outcomes or business results
  • Contribute to a collaborative work environment within the team, peers, stakeholders, and support groups to ensure issues may be resolved in a professional and productive manner
  • Uphold TransAlta values, thereby maintaining and enhancing reputation and stakeholder relations

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience:

  • Appropriate trade certification in a related discipline, with years of progressive experience
  • Preference for journeyman electrician certification or equivalent vocational training in technical fields
  • Preference for wind turbine experience of 5 years or more, or related experience
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License
  • Comprehensive understanding of concepts and principles within one's own discipline, along with knowledge of others
  • Understanding of the operational aspects of the plant, including technical, compliance, and financial aspects
  • Strong collaboration skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven leadership experience, including the ability to engage, develop, and take personal ownership of team members
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision while consistently taking initiative
  • Background or ethos focused on continuous improvement
  • Strong mindset around safety and compliance
  • Progressive advancement within the wind industry is an asset, indicating a history of career growth
  • Progressive leadership roles with a solid background in the power generation industry or industrial settings

Nice to Haves

The following qualifications and/or experience are desirable, but not essential:

  • Thorough understanding of the TransAlta operation model, plant risk and related mitigation strategies
  • Good understanding of contractor requirements, procurement processes, and inventory management
  • Familiarity with GE Technology, particularly in energy and power generation sectors
