Nordic Solar

Company Overview

Nordic Solar A/S, a subsidiary of NRGreen

Hellerup, Denmark

2010

Over 100 employees (source: nordicsolar.eu). Revenue of EUR 58.9 million in 2023 (source: nordicsolar.eu).

What They Do

Nordic Solar focuses exclusively on solar energy and battery energy storage systems (BESS), developing, constructing, and operating large-scale solar parks across Europe. The company manages the entire value chain from acquiring greenfield sites, land rights, permits, engineering, procurement, construction to integrating BESS and selling electricity (source: nordicsolar.eu). Its products include large solar parks with capacities in the hundreds of MWp, supplemented by BESS for storing excess energy, enhancing grid flexibility and supporting electrification. The parks take approximately 11 months to build and require minimal maintenance after operation (source: nordicsolar.eu). Target markets span growth regions in Europe, including Denmark, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, and Lithuania, serving large-scale customers through power purchase agreements (PPAs) and direct sales (source: nordicsolar.eu).

Projects & Achievements

Nordic Solar has completed remarkable projects, including the largest solar park in Portugal, the Ínsua park in Alentejo, covering 80 hectares. In Lithuania, they built a 100 MWp park with over 150,000 bifacial modules, supplying around 28,000 households (source: detrasolar.com). Additionally, they have a project in Sweden at the Rottneros paper mill, built on a repurposed landfill site (source: regionvarmland.se). Currently, they are working on two nearly completed solar parks in Spain and Sweden, as well as four Swedish parks in partnership with Helios Nordic Energy (acquired in 2022) (source: nordicsolar.eu).

Recent Developments

In the past two years, Nordic Solar has published its annual report for 2023, showing growth in its portfolio despite revenue declines from lower electricity prices. They secured a EUR 300 million debt facility for expansion and advanced BESS with 315 MW projects to be added before Q2 2024 (source: nordicsolar.eu). Q3 2024 results highlighted a production growth of 18% to 195 GWh, while prices were 24% lower, and two Spanish/Swedish parks were nearing completion (source: nordicsolar.eu). In Q2 2024, they included PPA/hedging sophistication and green additions, with expectations of 2024 revenues between EUR 57-69 million (source: nordicsolar.eu).

Working There

Nordic Solar employs over 100 people in 2023 across development, construction, operations, engineering, procurement, maintenance, finance, and management, with a team emphasizing diverse expertise to execute the entire value chain (source: nordicsolar.eu). The company maintains a fast pace, driven by CEO Nikolaj Holtet Hoff's ambition to accelerate Europe's energy transition, with skilled and dedicated employees driving the construction of multiple parks (source: nordicsolar.eu). Job Description

We are looking for a Senior Software Developer to take full ownership of our SCADA platform - from architecture and development to day-to-day operations. The role offers the opportunity to work across both operational and strategic initiatives while helping to define the future of the organization's technology landscape.

This is a high-impact, hands-on role. You will assess and optimize the current setup, remediate risks, modernize legacy architecture, and drive the continued evolution of the platform with a high degree of autonomy. In addition, you will contribute to broader IT automation and AI initiatives across the organization.

You will join a collaborative IT team, which is acting as a business enablement for the entire company. The team's responsibilities span from IT operations to driving the company's AI strategy. You will work closely with our Instrumentation and Controls, Operations, and Analytical Asset Management teams, becoming the internal technical authority on industrial software systems and OT/IT integration.

This position is based in Hellerup, Denmark.

Key Responsibilities

SCADA Platform Ownership

  • Take full development and operational ownership of our SCADA platform (Ignition by Inductive Automation) and the data infrastructure built around it
  • Assess the current architecture and systematically address security, reliability, and scalability gaps
  • Lead the decomposition of monolithic components into independently deployable, containerized microservices with proper failure domain isolation
  • Serve as the internal technical authority on SCADA, OT/IT integration, and industrial software systems
  • Reduce dependency on external vendors by owning product development end-to-end

Engineering Excellence

  • Establish and champion engineering best practices: mandatory code review, version control discipline, CI/CD gating, and testing before production
  • Implement container-based deployment using Docker with orchestration via Swarm, Kubernetes or Azure Container Apps
  • Define and maintain API standards and documentation across all platform integrations
  • Ensure platform reliability, data freshness, and uptime across all connected solar sites

Cloud & DevOps

  • Design, build, and maintain Azure-based infrastructure supporting the platform
  • Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines to streamline development and deployment
  • Apply best practices for version control using Git
  • Monitor system health and respond proactively to incidents

Automation, AI & Innovation

  • Contribute to internal automation and AI initiatives in collaboration with the broader IT team
  • Identify opportunities to reduce manual effort and increase operational efficiency through technology

Security & Compliance

  • Identify and address security vulnerabilities in the platform and its integrations
  • Establish and maintain monitoring, alerting, and recovery procedures

What We Are Looking For

Must-Have

  • 5+ years of software development experience, with exposure to complex systems or industrial environments
  • Strong hands-on experience with Python, SQL, Azure and cloud-based infrastructure
  • Solid knowledge of CI/CD practices and Git-based workflows
  • Experience designing and building system integrations and APIs
  • Security-minded approach to development and system design
  • Ability to establish engineering best practices in teams or platforms lacking them

Nice to Have

  • Experience with SCADA systems is a strong plus
  • Familiarity with industrial or OT/IT environments
  • Knowledge of NIS2 or similar cybersecurity frameworks
  • Experience with Azure IoT, event-driven architectures, and real-time data processing
  • Knowledge using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code and GitHub Copilot
  • Knowledge of LLM application development using LangChain and LangSmith
  • Microsoft, AWS, GCP relevant certifications

About You

  • You are brave - you challenge the status quo, raise hard questions, and make bold technical decisions when it matters
  • You take ownership - you don't wait to be told what to do next
  • You can hold the big picture while staying hands-on with the details
  • You communicate clearly across technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • You are pragmatic about build vs. adopt, and know when each is right
  • You bring structure
