What They Do
The Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) is an independent, not-for-profit policy research think tank that focuses on the integrated analysis of energy, environment, and water issues. Founded in 2010, CEEW conducts extensive research, advises governments, and develops policy frameworks rather than engaging in the construction or operation of renewable energy projects. This unique positioning makes it particularly relevant for job seekers interested in research, policy analysis, and public engagement roles within the sustainability sector (source: ceew.in). CEEW's work encompasses a wide range of topics, including energy efficiency, renewable integration, and climate adaptation, providing valuable insights and data-driven policy tools to various stakeholders (source: developmentaid.org). With over 160 peer-reviewed publications and 530 government advisories worldwide, CEEW is a key player in shaping sustainable policies in India and beyond (source: ceew.in).
Projects & Track Record
CEEW has established a strong track record in policy-driven initiatives rather than physical renewable energy projects. Notable works include the comprehensive 584-page National Water Resources Framework Study for India’s 12th Five Year Plan and the first independent evaluation of the National Solar Mission. Additionally, CEEW has contributed to significant projects such as the strategy for the International Solar Alliance, which aims to achieve 175 GW of renewable energy by 2022 (source: ceew.in). Ongoing projects include the GHG inventory and net-zero pathways for Tamil Nadu, climate resilience plans with Thane Municipal Corporation, and the ACCESS survey, which is India's largest multidimensional energy access study (source: ceew.in). CEEW collaborates with various stakeholders, including Indian federal and state governments, and has a geographic presence across 19 Indian states, extending its influence to global engagements in countries like Indonesia and South Africa (source: developmentaid.org).
Recent Developments
In FY 2023-24, CEEW released audited financials confirming its operational continuity as a not-for-profit organization (source: ceew.in). The organization has published reports focusing on decentralized renewable energy-powered livelihoods and advanced work on green hydrogen policy, climate risk awareness, and smart meter rollout. CEEW has also partnered with 16 states to facilitate just energy transitions, contributing to India's National Hydrogen Mission (source: ceew.in). Although there have been no major acquisitions or mergers reported post-2021, CEEW continues to model low-carbon scenarios and maintain its status as a top global climate think tank (source: macfound.org). Employee growth has reached 27% recently, indicating a robust expansion strategy amid ongoing projects and initiatives (source: growjo.com).
Working There
CEEW offers a diverse range of roles across various departments, including research, policy analysis, administration, and management. The organization hires professionals such as engineers, economists, and environmental scientists, with key personnel including CEO Arunabha Ghosh and Head of Talent Acquisition Charu Budhiraja (source: wikipedia.org). All hiring is based at the New Delhi headquarters, fostering a collaborative culture that emphasizes high-quality research and global engagement. With over 350 alumni from its 10+ years of operation, CEEW provides a career-building environment in public policy (source: onthinktanks.org). The organization also hosts seminars and conferences, such as the Energy Horizons series, to enhance skill-building and knowledge sharing among its employees (source: ceew.in).
