ABOUT THE ROLE

An exciting opportunity exists for an Operations Maintenance Technician - Mechanical (OMT) to join TransAlta's Hydro Operations team at our Spray Facility, based out of Seebe, Alberta.

Reporting to the Hydro Supervisor, the OMT-M is a multi-skilled role responsible for performing electrical maintenance tasks, as well as operating the Hydro facilities.

This full-time, safety sensitive position includes scheduled 24-hour standby shifts on a rotational basis. Successful completion of pre-employment testing is a condition of employment.

This is a union position, covered under the terms of the Collective Agreement with the IBEW, Local 254.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

  • Perform routine checks and maintenance of turbines, generators, governors, hydraulic equipment, pumps, hoists, water control structures, and auxiliaries
  • Assist in the planning and execution of minor outages to assess the condition of equipment
  • Use SAP and mobile tools to manage, track, and provide feedback on work activities, supporting a digital, field-based work management approach
  • Interface with Engineering, and other Internal Stakeholders
  • Assist in work scope definition and planning for work to be performed on major maintenance events
  • Maintain competence and training to perform all work safely
  • Preliminary troubleshooting of protection systems
  • Manually operate Hydro plants when required (start, stop and control of units)
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly routine inspections
  • Control Procedure to accommodate safe equipment maintenance
  • Provide 24hr. on-call coverage within a continuous rotating shift schedule. On-call responsibilities include initial plant stabilization, basic trouble shooting and repair.
  • Lead work and crews and / or contractors for routine and capital work
  • Maintain equipment and tooling ensuring fit for use and / or service
  • Work collaboratively with team, peers, stakeholders, and support groups to ensure issues are resolved in a professional and productive manner
  • Uphold TransAlta values, thereby maintaining and enhancing reputation and stakeholder relations

ABOUT YOU

  • Alberta or Inter-provincial Journeyman Millwright Ticket. Other recognized mechanical trade tickets may be considered.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience.
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta driver's license.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Technical knowledge of power generating assets.
  • Must be able to work safely and effectively on your own and in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Basic computer skills, SAP, excel, word, etc.
  • Willing to learn, and work within all TransAlta Environmental Health and Safety Policies and Procedures
  • Commit to upholding and operating within all applicable standards, rules, and regulations
  • Able to be on-call, when required
  • Provide coverage and support to other hydro plants
  • Be willing and able to travel for Hydro business purposes
