Thrusters & Propulsion Controls Product Line (PL) supervises the relevant business and provides a link between the market, the internal teams and the external partners. The team controls, develops, supports and promotes the specific Wärtsilä Thruster products and technologies, used on ships all around the World. Specific focus will be given to strategically important ship segments in offshore, cruise and ferries, tugboats, and various merchant vessels.

Due to positive development of the business, we strengthen our Product Sales & Product Management team with a cost engineer.

(Senior) Cost Engineer, Thrusters

Depending on your experience level, your role can be adjusted either to be Cost Engineer or Senior Cost Engineer. You will find yourself in the heart of the exciting world of the Maritime industry, working in truly international environment where Wärtsilä is recognised as a global leader in path of decarbonising the industry. Profitable business requires besides excellent products and effective sales, also efficient cost management. As (Senior) Cost Engineer you will be in key role to secure the competitiveness of our thrusters product portfolio.

Preferred location: Drunen, the Netherlands. Alternative locations: Helsinki, Finland (second preference) and Gdańsk, Poland (optional).

What you will be doing

You will ensure the cost competitiveness of our baseline products transverse thrusters, steerable thrusters and retractable thrusters in short and long timespan. You keep the standard product cost structures in our system up-to date ensuring correct pricing in our sales projects. As well you participate in special projects where customisation is needed, and specific cost analyses are needed. You drive the cost structure understanding and cost competitiveness in our organisation and participate in R&D projects and cost-cut initiatives.

Your main responsibilities are to

  • Continuously increase and sharpen the holistic cost structure understanding of Thruster products.
  • Ensure up-to-date cost information for standard products in Quotation Management System (QMS), both for existing products and new developments
  • Participate product development projects as a cost structure expert and drive selection of cost-effective solutions in development
  • Share actively product cost structure understanding in organisation and drive cost competitiveness of thruster products.
  • Support Non-standard sales projects with cost calculations and cost analysis
  • Propose cost reduction activities and projects, and attend to cost-cut actions based on need

Main requirements in this role are:

  • Technical background and at least 3 years experience in field of heavy machinery. Your experience can have been collected eg. in function such as purchasing, sourcing, engineering, project delivery or supply management
  • Basic understanding of general cost factors of heavy machinery products and delivery.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Economics, or a related field.
  • Interest and will to understand and improve cost competitiveness of thruster products
  • Capability to co-operate with different stakeholder groups : Engineering, R&D, Sales, Sales tools development, Production, Supply Management, Product Management, Financial Controlling.
  • Good communication skills, professional use of English in verbal and writing.
  • Earlier experience in Marine business is considered as an asset.
