Job Description
ScottishPower's Drawing Office is growing to support an expanding portfolio of Transmission Network projects, and we are looking for a talented Substation Main Plant Designer to join our team.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the development and delivery of high-quality engineering models and drawings for transmission projects operating at 132kV and above.
Working within a collaborative and highly skilled engineering environment, you will contribute to the successful delivery of critical infrastructure projects that support the future of the electricity network.
Reporting to the Plant Discipline Lead, you will be responsible for producing accurate, compliant, and high-quality design outputs that meet project, safety, and regulatory requirements.
What You'll Be Doing
You will apply your expertise in the production of substation plant models and drawings, including:
- General Arrangement Drawings (X-Refs)
- 3D modelling of substation plant
- Electrical layouts and elevations
- Installation details
- Busbar and connector drawings and schedules
- Earthing layouts and details
You will also:
- Develop feasibility and detailed design models and drawings for complex transmission and distribution projects.
- Produce accurate engineering models and drawings from technical information and project requirements.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, quality, and environmental standards.
- Manage assigned workloads to support efficient project delivery.
- Apply and promote drawing standards, procedures, and industry best practices.
- Support compliance with externally audited quality management systems.
- Assist in the management and maintenance of Drawing Office databases.
- Support auditable design and design-change processes in accordance with BS EN ISO 9001 requirements.
- Review and assess engineering drawings as part of approval and verification processes.
- Provide technical guidance and support to colleagues.
- Deliver high-quality outputs within agreed timescales to achieve excellent client satisfaction.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of Drawing Office procedures, documentation, and processes.
- Maintain effective communication with the Drawing Office Manager, Design Leads, project teams, and clients.
What you'll bring
To succeed in this role, you will have a strong understanding of engineering drawing production, drawing standards, and quality processes, along with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
You should have experience using Autodesk design software and related engineering applications, including:
- Revit
- AutoCAD
- Vault
- Autodesk Forma
- ProjectWise
- Raster Design
- Microsoft Office Suite
Ideally, you will hold an HNC in Electrical Engineering or Civil/Structural Engineering, although equivalent experience within a Transmission Substation Design Drawing Office environment will also be considered.
