Job Description

Payroll isn't just about paying people on time. It's about ensuring compliance across multiple countries, interpreting changing regulations, and building processes that support international growth.

At FairWind, we operate in more than 40 countries, delivering wind turbine installation and service projects worldwide. As our business continues to expand, we're looking for an experienced Senior Payroll Compliance Specialist who will become our subject matter expert in international payroll compliance.

This is a highly independent senior role with significant influence on how payroll compliance is managed across the organization. In the future, the position may evolve into leading a dedicated payroll compliance function.

Your qualifications

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in payroll, payroll compliance, finance or accounting within an international organization.
  • Higher education, preferably in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of payroll calculations, employment costs, taxation and employer obligations.
  • Experience working with international payroll environments.
  • Excellent analytical skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Very good English (minimum B2).
  • Confidence working independently and making expert recommendations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with Finance, HR, Legal teams and external advisors.

It would be an advantage if you have

  • Experience implementing payroll processes in new countries.
  • Experience working with external payroll providers across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Knowledge of payroll or HR systems such as Shoreline, Dayforce, SAP, Workday or similar.
  • Experience supporting audits or compliance reviews.
  • Leadership potential and interest in developing a future team.

Your Role

  • Take ownership of payroll compliance across multiple countries and employment models.
  • Monitor changes in payroll legislation, tax regulations and employer obligations, ensuring FairWind remains compliant.
  • Develop and improve payroll compliance processes, internal controls and calculation standards.
  • Configure payroll calculation rules when entering new markets or introducing new employment models.
  • Calculate total employer costs (gross-to-gross) and support decision-making regarding employment structures.
  • Act as the key expert supporting Finance, HR and external payroll providers on payroll compliance matters.
  • Verify payroll calculations and identify discrepancies between payroll postings, accruals and financial records.
  • Cooperate with local payroll providers, tax advisors and authorities to ensure compliance with local legislation.
  • Become the key user of our payroll systems (including Shoreline, PMS and future payroll solutions), ensuring data accuracy and correct payroll rates.
  • Prepare documentation, reporting and communication related to payroll compliance.
  • Support internal stakeholders by sharing knowledge and promoting payroll compliance best practices.
  • Participate in cross-functional and international projects as our payroll compliance expert.
