About the Role
We are currently looking to hire a results-oriented Facility Operator to join our Hydro Renewables team. Reporting directly to the Manager, Asset Hydro, you will effectively and efficiently operate, maintain, and coordinate day-to-day activities, as well as provide input to long-term asset management.
The role is accountable to ensure the safe, compliant, and reliable operation and maintenance of our Small Hydro facility in Revelstoke, British Columbia. This role requires the employee to be onsite at the Pingston facility. The successful candidate will be required to reside within 45 minute's drive time of the facility.
This is a full-time, safety sensitive position. Successful completion of pre-employment testing is a condition of employment.
A Day in the Life
- Ensure compliance with TransAlta's operating model
- Accountable for all routine operations and planning/execution of maintenance, working with peers and multiple cross-functional support groups including Engineering
- Provide recommendations based on equipment condition and operational performance
- Supervise and engage contractors in support of maintenance & operations work activities
- Optimize the outage schedule to minimize lost production and increase revenue opportunities in collaboration with water management and key stakeholders
- Implement emergency response exercises
- Adhere to all hydro procedures and safe work practices
- Perform dam safety diligence checks on all structures and perform readings and measurements of all instruments and meters & provide reporting to Dam Safety team
- Ensure all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements are met.
- Establish a collaborative work environment with team, peers, stakeholders and support groups to ensure issues may be resolved in a professional and productive manner
- Uphold TransAlta values, thereby maintaining and enhancing reputation and stakeholder relations
About You
- Journeyman Electrical/Millwright Ticket
- 3-5 years relevant work experience
- Industrial construction and maintenance knowledge - specific power generation experience is an asset
- Demonstrated knowledge of all hydro conveyance systems.
- Awareness and understanding of applicable regulations and legislations that apply to the power generation industry.
- Specific hydro knowledge is an asset
- High voltage switching experience and instrumentation experience an asset
- Technical knowledge of power-generating assets.
- Intermediate computer skills - Microsoft and SAP
- Ability to work an on-call schedule up to 50% of the year, covering multiple plants
- Provide coverage and support to other hydro plants and operators when required Willing and able to travel up to 20% of the time
- Valid and unrestricted driver's license
