Job Summary

The Director of Power Purchase Agreements will be responsible for sourcing, structuring and closing complex Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and Corporate PPAs across the region. This is a wide remit that will evolve with the markets and as Peak develops.

The immediate focus is

  • Source and grow Key Account sales relationships regionally with our most important off-takers. This often involves expanding an existing relationship from one country to another or expanding an existing contractual structure to another e.g. onsite projects to off-site.
  • Support / lead complex PPA negotiations across Asia (as and when necessary). This includes 1) negotiating first of a kind (FOAK) PPAs for solar + BESS projects and 2) negotiating grid wheeling / off-site / third party access projects as our markets deregulate.

He/she must have good understanding and capabilities around:

  • Originating and closing sales processes in complex deals with large multi-national companies (MNC).
  • Standard and innovative PPA markets, pricing dynamics, legal structures.
  • Developing and closing joint ventures and M&A deals around off-take.
  • Power market regulations, structures and key players.
  • Leading and motivating teams - whether they report to you or not.
  • Developing effective go-to-market strategies for new markets.

The PPA Sales Director will work alongside the PS&M Head of Sales and in close cooperation with sales, project development and business development teams regionally.

Key Responsibilities

Deal Generation

  • Identify and pursue customer leads for PPAs across the region
  • Prepare commercial offers; lead commercial negotiations and secure PPAs, collaborating with project development teams, legal, finance, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure alignment of project timelines, contract terms meeting business requirements
  • Manage multiple sales projects with different timelines in parallel, defining priorities and focus areas to keep projects on track, reporting when required effectively and efficiently
  • Cultivate and manage strategic partnerships including:
    • Relationships with channel partners, electricity retailers, BESS suppliers, EPCs
    • Joint ventures and Joint development activities
  • Participate and represent PEAK ENERGY at external events such as conferences, exhibitions, round tables, third parties' partnerships
  • Originate and support marketing and PR activities across the region

Financial Stewardship

  • Ensure sales, cost estimation, and return on investment KPI's are upheld

Key-account management

  • PEAK ENERGY is headquartered in Singapore and active across Asia region. Many of our MNC customer are based in Singapore. The PPA Sales Director will play an important role in coordinating the efforts of PEAK's local offices to provide seamless and uniform customer experience across the region to our key-account customers
  • Promote and portray PEAK Energy's role as key decarbonization partner for MNC corporates in the region
  • Engage with C-level counterparts to outline and propose comprehensive and holistic decarbonization strategy across the region

BESS deployment

  • At PEAK ENERGY, we believe that the future of renewable energy lies in the integration of BESS (battery energy storage system) to solar and wind projects, to manage the inherent intermittency and offer a better solution to corporate customers
  • The PPA Sales Director, working with the Engineering Centre and the Business Development team, will build new business models centered around BESS to offer to customers

Qualifications

  • Industry expert in renewable energy projects
  • 10+ years of experience developing business
  • Deep understanding of power markets, regulations, structure and key players.
  • Thorough understanding of multi-million-dollar capital investment decision-making.
  • Project finance knowledge
  • Proven ability to operate effectively with little oversight
  • Commercial acumen
  • Track record of negotiating and closing complex contracts
  • Understanding of associated project risks with ability to install proper risk management framework
  • Strategic thinker with a keen understanding of the renewable energy landscape
  • Existing relationships with renewable energy industry participants is a plus
  • Experience working in a start-up company is a plus
  • Energy storage technology experience is a plus
