Job Description
This role gets you out from behind a desk, and your new commute is now a boat ride. Our technicians inspect and maintain the equipment that moves power from offshore wind turbines to the grid: switchgear, transformers, backup diesel generators, HVAC, fire protection systems, and the steel structures holding all of it up. Our technicians also fly inspection drones over foundations and topsides once Semco pays for your license and training.
What separates a good tech from a great one here is attention to details. While you may be sent to an asset to perform one maintenance task, we expect eyes and ears open to find and report any deficiencies that need attention.
You will be based in New Bedford, MA. Our vessel operations are out of New Bedford and we need you able to commute here up to 5 days a week.
The schedule
Offshore days run 10 to 14 hours when the weather window is open, and every hour past 40 is paid overtime. Crew rest and safety is also a priority, so appropriate time onshore is given in exchange for the long days offshore. If long days on the water sound miserable, this isn't your job. If they sound like the good part, keep reading.
You'd fit if
- You know your way around a multimeter and other engineering measurement devices
- You've done electrical, mechanical, or structural work somewhere real. Apprentice electrician, diesel or generator tech, industrial maintenance mechanic, shipyard or marine work, a military engineering rate, or a fresh EE/ME degree with shop time behind it
- You can write up a finding that a stranger can act on
- You're fine working at height and can pass an offshore medical
- Work independently
- No offshore experience required. That part we teach.
Training we pay for
- FCC Part 107 remote pilot certificate, so you run the drone inspections yourself
- GWO Basic Safety Training: working at height, sea survival, first aid, fire awareness, manual handling
- Offshore medical and travel certification
- Platform Manager qualification once you have a couple of seasons in, which comes with a pay step and real authority on deck
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED, plus at least one of the following:
- One year of hands-on maintenance, repair, or installation work in any industry
- An apprenticeship in an electrical or mechanical trade, completed or in progress
- A technical certificate or associate degree in electrical, mechanical, industrial maintenance, marine technology, or similar
- A military rating or MOS in electrical, mechanical, or power generation work
- A bachelor's in electrical or mechanical engineering
Benefits
- We match 3% of employee contribution to retirement
- Medical, dental and vision insurance, Premium 100% paid
- 10-15 days paid vacation
- 8 hours of pay on designated company holidays
- Company continuing education funds available
Salary range
$32 to $37 per hour, plus overtime
Where you land in that range comes down to your certifications and how much hands-on maintenance experience you've already performed.
