ConnectDER
Company Overview
ConnectDER
HeadquartersPhiladelphia, PA, United States
Founded2011
SizeApproximately 50 employees (source: bizjournals.com). The company has raised over $70 million in funding, including $35 million in a December 2024 Series D round (source: bizjournals.com).
What They Do
ConnectDER specializes in developing innovative meter socket adapters (MSAs) that facilitate residential connections for distributed energy resources, such as solar panels and electric vehicle (EV) chargers. Founded in 2011, the company has evolved from its initial focus on solar interconnections to a broader product line that includes solutions for battery storage systems. Their core technology features UL-listed, NEC-compliant devices that can be installed quickly, allowing homeowners to connect renewable energy sources without the need for expensive electrical panel upgrades or rewiring (source: connectder.com). This approach not only simplifies the installation process but also significantly reduces costs for homeowners, making renewable energy more accessible to a wider audience.
Projects & Track Record
While specific project names and capacities are not publicly detailed, ConnectDER has successfully shipped tens of thousands of units across the United States, with over 20,000-25,000 Solar adapters deployed since its inception. These products have enabled widespread residential solar, EV, and storage interconnections through a network of installers. The company has received approvals from 44 utilities across 24 states, allowing it to serve approximately 50 million households that lack adequate electrical infrastructure (source: connectder.com). Notable partnerships include collaborations with national installers like Sunrun and regional players such as Icon Power and Haven Energy, which further enhance its market presence and distribution capabilities.
Recent Developments
In the past two years, ConnectDER has made significant strides, including the appointment of Ivo Steklac as CEO in mid-2024, who previously held leadership roles at EVgo. The company secured $35 million in Series D funding in December 2024, bringing its total funding to over $70 million (source: bizjournals.com). Additionally, ConnectDER launched its ConnectDER EV product and introduced IslandDER, a new solution for whole-home grid isolation and backup, in early 2025. The company also achieved important utility approvals in Illinois from ComEd and Ameren, further expanding its operational footprint (source: prnewswire.com). These developments position ConnectDER for substantial growth in the rapidly evolving clean energy market.
Working There
ConnectDER is experiencing rapid growth and plans to hire approximately 30 new employees in 2025, primarily in Philadelphia, across various departments including sales, engineering, operations, and manufacturing. This hiring initiative aims to support the company's product launches and scaling efforts, with a goal of exceeding 100 total staff by 2026 (source: bizjournals.com). The company culture emphasizes collaboration with utilities, installers, and electricians, fostering an innovative environment that encourages growth and adaptation in the clean energy sector. While specific employee benefits are not publicly documented, the focus on a high-growth startup atmosphere suggests a dynamic and engaging workplace for potential employees.
