About the job

We are looking for an energetic and pragmatic Legal Officer to deliver comprehensive legal support across multiple aspects of our business, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing contracts, and minimizing legal risks. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a rapidly expanding scale-up in the environmental commodities trading sector, where your skills will be essential in enhancing our contract management, due diligence, litigation, and compliance efforts, driving the company's continued growth.

Responsibilities

  • Commercial Contracting - Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including master trading agreements (particular focus on EFETs), transaction-specific single trading agreements, NDAs, brokerage agreements, service agreements and other ad-hoc commercial agreements
  • Regulatory Compliance - Advise on regulatory compliance in the context of energy trading and OTC transactions, monitor relevant legal and regulatory developments and coordinate the implementation of any required actions
  • Governance and Internal Compliance - Develop, implement and maintain company policies, procedures and corporate governance documentation to support legal compliance and effective internal processes
  • General Legal Support - Handle a broad range of ad-hoc legal and administrative matters, including employment, corporate, regulatory and compliance matters, in support of evolving business priorities
  • Business Development and Legal Structuring - Support the legal assessment and implementation of new business ideas, translating strategic initiatives into compliant, practical and commercially workable legal structures
  • Dispute Management - Support dispute resolution and coordinate litigation and arbitration proceedings, including managing communications with external counsel in cross-border matters

About you

  • Bachelor's degree in Law (LLB) and Master's degree in Law (LLM)
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience as a legal professional, preferably with exposure to the energy or financial sector
  • Strong knowledge of civil and commercial law, contract law, regulatory compliance and corporate governance
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to navigate diverse stakeholders and shifting priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Ability to work independently and make sound, well-reasoned legal decisions while maintaining efficiency under pressure
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Fluency in English is required; proficiency in German is strongly preferred, while knowledge of Dutch or French is considered an asset
