Job description
BOSS is looking for a Graduate Recruitment Consultant to join the team and learn recruitment from the ground up across both executive search and contract. You will do the same core work as our consultants, sourcing candidate and contractor CVs and producing qualified business development leads, with structured training and close support from experienced consultants while you build the skills.
You will work where the business needs you, supporting live searches and contract requirements. In your first weeks you will build longlists, research contractor pools and track availability under supervision; as your training progresses you will take on screening calls, submissions and your own lead pipeline.
Your responsibilities will centre around:
Candidate and contractor sourcing
- Research target companies and build candidate longlists against live search briefs using LinkedIn Recruiter, the BOSS network and market maps;
- Search for available contractors against live contract requirements, keeping contractor records current with availability dates, day rates and locations;
- Learn to run structured screening calls: for search candidates, technical fit, motivation, compensation expectations and notice period; for contractors, day rate, availability, engagement route and compliance; and right to work for both;
- Score candidates against each search's scoring matrix and prepare CVs in the BOSS house format for review by the lead consultant;
- Keep pipeline trackers accurate and current, recording what candidates and contractors tell you rather than what you assume;
- Support interview scheduling, offers, contractor onboarding and candidate communication alongside the lead consultant.
Qualified lead generation
- Track hiring signals across our verticals: funding rounds, final investment decisions, EPC and construction contract awards, grant awards, leadership changes and job postings;
- Research each signal to the point of qualification: whether the need looks like a permanent hire or contract work, the hiring manager, the timing and the most credible route in, including any preferred supplier list;
- Log qualified leads in the BOSS BD system to the agreed standard, with the evidence behind each one, and hand them to the relevant vertical lead;
- Pass on intelligence picked up in candidate and contractor conversations, such as who is hiring, which projects are starting and which assignments are ending.
Training and development
- Complete BOSS's structured training covering our search method, contract delivery, sourcing and headhunting technique, screening calls and lead qualification;
- Build working knowledge of the technologies our clients develop and the project phases they hire for, through sector primers and time with our vertical leads;
- Shadow experienced consultants on candidate, contractor and client calls before running your own;
- Agree development goals with your manager, with a formal review at six months and a defined path to Recruitment Consultant in executive search or contract at 12 months, subject to performance and business need.
This role is about doing the work, not observing it. From early on you will be making calls, building pipelines and producing leads that feed live business.
Abilities and expertise we are looking for
- A degree 2:1 or above in any discipline; engineering, science, economics or environmental subjects are a plus;
- A genuine interest in the energy transition and the technologies and projects behind it;
- Confidence talking to people you don't know, including senior professionals, and the curiosity to ask good questions;
- The ability to juggle several live priorities without dropping detail;
- Strong organisation, with good working knowledge of Excel;
- Any experience in a target-driven, sales or customer-facing setting (part-time work, internships, societies) is a plus;
- Clear, accurate written English; additional European languages a plus;
- Right to work in the UK.
No prior recruitment experience is required.
Mindset we are looking for
- Coachable: you take feedback quickly and apply it the next day;
- Adaptable: you can switch between the longer rhythm of an executive search and the pace of a contract requirement;
- Self-driven: once trained, you set your own daily activity and deliver it without being chased;
- Accurate: you record what people actually told you, and you flag gaps rather than filling them;
- Resilient on the phone and comfortable hearing no;
- Humble, low-ego and keen to learn the technology behind the roles you recruit for.
What we have to offer
- Structured training across executive search and contract recruitment, delivered by consultants who work in the sector every day;
- A clear progression path from graduate to consultant;
- Early exposure to searches and projects at the frontier of industrial decarbonisation;
- A small, flat team where your contribution is visible from the start;
- Competitive base salary [plus commission eligibility after an initial period];
- Two-week Christmas closure, workplace pension and Director lunches;
- Hybrid working: Monday to Thursday in the office, Friday from home.
Our process
- An initial call (20 to 30 mins) with a Consultant to discuss BOSS, the role and your career interests;
- A short research exercise: identify three companies or projects in one of our verticals likely to hire in the next six months, say whether each need looks permanent or contract, and explain the evidence, reviewed together on a video call (45 mins) with the Team Lead;
- A final interview with Mike Johnson, Managing Director;
- Reference or academic referee contacts, as appropriate.
