About H-TEC SYSTEMS

Company Overview

Name

Quest One GmbH (formerly H-TEC SYSTEMS), a subsidiary of MAN Energy Solutions

Headquarters

Augsburg, Germany

Founded

1997

Size

Approximately 600 employees across three global locations (source: pitchbook.com)

What They Do

Quest One GmbH, formerly known as H-TEC SYSTEMS, is a leading company in hydrogen technology specializing in the development and manufacturing of PEM electrolyzers and electrolyzer stacks for green hydrogen production (source: questone.com). The company provides efficient, flexible, and reliable solutions for converting electricity into hydrogen and positions itself as a technology leader in the Power-to-X value chain (source: questone.com). Their core technology is the electrolyzer stacks, which form the heart of the electrolyzers and are manufactured industrially on a large scale (source: questone.com). Key customers are primarily industrial users and project developers who require scalable hydrogen production plants for decarbonization and energy transition applications (source: wasserstoffwirtschaft.sh). A distinctive feature is the industrial series production at a new facility in Hamburg, which, at full capacity, is expected to enable an annual electrolyzer capacity of over 5 GW (source: questone.com). Final assembly follows an automotive-style production principle at the Augsburg site (source: questone.com).

Projects & Track Record

Quest One focuses on expanding industrial manufacturing capacities rather than individual large-scale projects. A major milestone is the opening of the new production and development center in Hamburg in September 2024, which will enable automated series production of electrolyzer stacks with a capacity exceeding 5 GW per year (source: questone.com). Final assembly of completed stacks and electrolyzers continues at the Augsburg site (source: questone.com). The company boasts over 25 years of experience in hydrogen technology and has significantly contributed to the development of the hydrogen economy with its technology (source: questone.com). Its geographic presence includes Germany as well as the USA, with a location near Houston, Texas (source: questone.com).

Recent Developments

In August 2024, H-TEC SYSTEMS was renamed Quest One, coinciding with the opening of the new production facility in Hamburg and the start of series production of electrolyzer stacks (source: questone.com). The company aims to reduce at least one percent of global greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 through the use of its electrolyzers (source: questone.com). In 2024, Quest One is described as a global market leader in PEM electrolysis and employs around 550 people across its Hamburg, Augsburg, and Houston locations (source: questone.com). Production capacity in Augsburg and Braak was already expanded in 2023 to strengthen its role as a partner in the energy transition (source: wasserstoffwirtschaft.sh).

Working There

Quest One offers diverse employment opportunities in engineering, production, research & development, quality assurance, supply chain, sales, communications, and project management—roles typical for industrial manufacturing and scaling (source: questone.com). Employees are organized by location: Augsburg specializes in final assembly, Hamburg focuses on stack development and production, and Houston supports the North American presence (source: questone.com). The corporate culture is characterized by growth, automation, and technical innovation in hydrogen systems, making it especially attractive for professionals seeking to work in a fast-growing, international high-tech environment (source: questone.com).
