Relectrify is a Melbourne-based deep-tech company redefining how batteries connect to everything they power. Our CellSwitch® platform is an open architecture that works with any cell, built on more than 150 patents and roughly ten years of platform R&D, and backed by leading investors including Toyota, EDP, NRG Energy, GS and Australia's Clean Energy Finance Corporation.

The first product, the AC1, is designed for Commercial and Industrial (C&I) battery energy storage. It is now shipping, with ~A$45M of revenue expected across 2026-27 into a market we size at over A$25B/yr by 2030. We have moved from proving the technology to selling it, starting in Australia.

About the role

This newly created executive leadership position reports to the CEO and will be responsible for the commercial success of our battery energy storage systems (BESS) business. The Head of Commercial will own go-to-market strategy, business development, product marketing, solutions engineering and customer operations for our BESS product platform. The role is focused on the Australian market today, but the scope is global.

Who we need

We are a high-growth business, and our primary objective is to achieve market share leadership in our chosen market segments in Australia within 36 months. To do this, we need an experienced leader who has successfully led and scaled commercial teams, ideally within growth-stage product businesses in the energy sector. We need a leader with a proven track record who can define, refine and execute our go-to-market plan for success in both the commercial and industrial (C&I) and the front-of-the-meter (FTM) battery energy storage markets.

What you'll be doing

  • Taking ownership of delivering our ARENA programme, which underpins our Australian market entry with the AC1 product.
  • Refining our strategy and market positioning, including building partnerships with players in the market who can both benefit from and contribute to our success.
  • Owning our sales plan and our P&L, working with the CEO to define our targets and then delivering on these sales, revenue and gross profit numbers.
  • Defining, managing, and executing the right marketing plan for our BESS platform, including both brand building and demand generation.
  • Building and converting a pipeline of opportunities for the AC1 (and future products) through a combination of channel sales and key account business development.
  • Ensuring we deliver for customers by working with Production and Engineering leadership to build our project delivery, asset operations and customer success teams.
  • Thinking critically to identify better ways to deliver value to customers, including the exploration of novel product variants for specific use cases.
  • Working closely with our Product Management team to ensure that the true needs of the customer (and our competitive realities) are fully considered within our product roadmap.
  • Representing Relectrify in senior industry, customer and partner forums, communicating our vision and value proposition with credibility and impact at the executive level.
  • Working with the CEO and Chief of Staff to evaluate and develop the right approach to market entry in key global geographies, and leading these efforts once an entry decision is made.

Requirements

Applicants must have full working rights in Australia and be willing to undergo pre-employment background checks (working rights, criminal history, and reference checks).

Must-have experience

  • Proven track record of successfully leading and scaling a go-to-market business, owning the commercial strategy, sales and financial results, and building the team to deliver them. Ideally, that experience will have been gained in a business that is:
    • a product business (rather than software or services);
    • a growth-stage company;
    • B2B-focused;
    • in the energy sector; and
    • in renewable energy or battery energy storage (BESS).
  • History of success building strategic partnerships with established players across the market.
  • Proven ability to close complex deals - developing pipeline through channel and key-account sales and winning competitive technical and commercial procurement processes.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the credibility and presence to represent the company in senior industry, customer and external forums.

Compensation

The position offers market-competitive salary along with an incentive compensation scheme tied to our business development objectives. In addition, we offer the unique opportunity to participate directly in the ownership of Relectrify through our Employee Share Option Plan (ESOP).

Location

The position offers the flexibility of hybrid work between your home and our Melbourne office. Travel will be required from time to time.

Benefits

  • Flexible work arrangements
  • Gender-neutral paid parental
  • Purchased leave scheme
  • Salary sacrifice for superannuation
  • Education reimbursement
  • No-cost commuting
  • Free snacks and (actually good!) coffee
  • Team events and monthly socials

What They Do

Relectrify is a specialized battery technology company focused on designing advanced battery control systems for stationary energy storage applications. Originating from research at the University of Melbourne, the company has evolved from second-life battery solutions to pioneering cell-level battery management and power conversion technologies. Their flagship innovations include the CellSwitch technology and the BMS+Inverter platform, which enable high-efficiency AC output without the need for conventional inverters. This technology extends lithium-ion battery life by up to one-third while reducing costs by as much as 50% compared to existing market solutions (source: relectrify.com). Relectrify targets a broad range of markets including residential, commercial, industrial, and utility-scale grid storage, with modular systems ranging from approximately 30 kWh to 10 MWh in capacity (source: energy-storage.news). Their technology is distinguished by granular cell-level control capable of managing nearly 4,000 battery cells within a single AC1 unit, enabling enhanced performance and longevity (source: energy-storage.news).

Projects & Track Record

Relectrify has demonstrated its technology through several notable projects, including the Relectrify Second-Life Battery Trial conducted in Melbourne, Victoria, under ARENA’s Advancing Renewables Program from December 2020 to March 2024. This trial developed a 36 kW / 120 kWh modular battery product utilizing second-life Nissan Leaf battery packs integrated with Relectrify’s BMS+Inverter technology. The product successfully completed certification testing, and 15 units were manufactured and sold targeting utility, commercial, and industrial customers (source: arena.gov.au). Currently, Relectrify is advancing the More Energy Project, a AU$61.1 million initiative supported by AU$25 million from ARENA, running from August 2025 to May 2028. This project aims to deploy AC1 inverterless battery energy storage systems at customer sites across Australia, targeting a cumulative capacity of up to 100 MWh. The first AC1 installation under this program was completed in Renmark, South Australia, in partnership with YES Energy (source: energy-storage.news). Earlier collaborations include pilots with AEP and Nissan North America in the U.S., New Zealand utility Vector, Nissan subsidiary 4R Energy Japan, Volkswagen Germany, and IBM, showcasing the versatility and global reach of their battery management solutions (source: relectrify.com).

Recent Developments

In recent years, Relectrify has achieved significant milestones including the deployment of its first inverterless battery energy storage system (BESS) in South Australia as part of the ARENA-backed More Energy Project, reported in 2026. This installation marked a key commercial rollout of their AC1 technology, supported by AU$25 million in funding from ARENA to accelerate market adoption (source: arena.gov.au). The company has also secured substantial early-stage and growth funding, including a $750,000 equity investment from the Clean Energy Innovation Fund in 2017 and a $2.5 million investment from the CEFC’s Innovation Fund to support the launch of their BMS+Inverter technology (source: arena.gov.au). These investments have enabled Relectrify to expand its technology development and commercial deployments globally.

Working There

Relectrify offers career opportunities primarily focused on product development and engineering roles, emphasizing work on cutting-edge battery energy storage technologies. The company recruits talent in mechanical and thermal engineering disciplines, reflecting its focus on hardware, systems integration, and product innovation (source: relectrify.com). Based in Melbourne, Australia, Relectrify fosters a culture centered on advancing transformational storage solutions, supported by prominent investors such as Toyota Ventures, At One Ventures, and the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (source: linkedin.com). The company’s work environment is geared towards professionals passionate about pioneering battery management systems and inverter technologies for stationary storage applications.
