The first generation of offshore wind farms is entering a new phase. As the industry addresses the opportunities and challenges of life extension, repowering and decommissioning, you'll help RWE develop a world-class decommissioning capability that supports the long-term sustainability of our global portfolio.

Working within the Project Delivery team and as part of a matrix team led by the Decommissioning Lead, you'll shape the strategies, governance frameworks, supply chain relationships and delivery models that will underpin future decommissioning activities. This is a rare opportunity to help define industry best practice and contribute to the next stage of offshore wind's evolution.

About the role

  • Support the development and implementation of RWE's offshore wind decommissioning strategy, including governance frameworks, delivery models, standards and processes across the global portfolio.
  • Coordinate the development of future decommissioning capabilities across technical, commercial, operational and regulatory functions, embedding decommissioning considerations throughout the asset lifecycle.
  • Act as a key interface between internal teams and companies, including Offshore Wind, Generation and Nuclear, as well as regulators, joint venture partners and contractors.
  • Lead and support decommissioning studies and projects, including contracting strategies, risk management and oversight of cost, schedule and performance reporting.
  • Support the management of decommissioning liabilities, cost estimates and financial planning inputs to enable robust decisions and business cases.
  • Develop strategic supply chain relationships while supporting procurement activities, market engagement and capability development.
  • Contribute to asset life extension, repowering and end-of-life planning by integrating decommissioning into long-term asset lifecycle decisions.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation, improved efficiency and circular economy approaches that enhance value and sustainability.

Job requirements and experience

  • Completed degree in Engineering, Marine Operations, Project Management or a closely related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience delivering complex engineering, infrastructure, offshore energy or marine projects.
  • Strong project management capability covering planning, scheduling, budgeting, risk management, governance and project delivery.
  • Commercial awareness with experience in procurement, contract management, supply chain engagement and business case development.
  • Ability to build trusted relationships and influence technical, commercial, operational, regulatory and external stakeholders.
  • Commitment to the highest standards of health, safety and environmental performance.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and relationship management skills, with strong written and spoken English.
  • Strategic and solution-focused approach to working in collaborative, multidisciplinary and international teams, with willingness to travel internationally and undertake occasional offshore and site-based work.

Advantageous, but not essential

  • Experience in decommissioning, asset life extension or end-of-life asset management.
  • Additional language skills, particularly German.

With an installed capacity of 46.8 GW at the end of 2025, including 3.3 GW offshore wind and 1.7 GW battery storage, RWE ranks among the world’s largest developers in these sectors (source: rwe.com). The company focuses on developing and operating energy assets for utilities, industrial customers, and market participants, distinguished by its scale, broad technology range, and strong presence in the North Sea and US markets (source: rwe.com).

Projects & Track Record

RWE delivers numerous large-scale renewable energy projects, including the 1,400 MW Sofia offshore wind farm in the United Kingdom, the 1,080 MW Thor project in Denmark, and the North Sea clusters A and B in Germany with capacities of 660 MW and 900 MW respectively (source: rwe.com). In total, five major wind farms are under construction in the North Sea, adding around 3.1 GW of generation capacity (source: rwe.com). In the US, RWE commissioned six renewable energy projects totaling 999 MW in 2025, including wind, solar, and battery storage facilities across four states (source: rwe.com). In Lingen, Germany, RWE is building a 300 MW electrolyzer as part of the GET H2 Nukleus project, along with a 34 MW hydrogen-compatible gas turbine for reconversion of green hydrogen to power (source: rwe.com). Additionally, RWE operates Megabattery 117+, one of Germany’s largest battery storage systems, used in wholesale and balancing markets (source: rwe.com).

Recent Developments

In 2025, RWE commissioned 2.8 GW of new power plant capacity, investing approximately €10.8 billion gross, bringing the installed capacity to 46.8 GW (source: rwe.com). For the period 2026 to 2031, the company plans net investments of €35 billion to expand renewable energy, battery storage, and flexible power plant capacity by 25 GW to around 65 GW (source: rwe.com). This includes €9 billion for flexible backup and large battery projects, as well as up to 3 GW of hydrogen-capable gas power plants in Germany, plus €7 billion for onshore wind and solar in Europe and Australia (source: rwe.com). Offshore wind capacity reached 3.3 GW pro rata at the end of 2025, and five UK projects secured government contracts with expected capacity up to 6.9 GW, of which RWE holds 3.5 GW (source: rwe.com).
