You'll turn technical transmission insight into commercially relevant recommendations that influence investment cases, portfolio value and strategy across our UK renewables, batteries and flexible generation assets.
Working with senior stakeholders across Development, Commercial, Engineering, Regulatory Affairs and Market Analysis, you'll help us navigate a rapidly evolving power system and unlock opportunities created by the energy transition.
About the role
- Bring insight into UK transmission and distribution systems, including network development, grid connections, network charges, congestion, curtailment and flexibility.
- Support decisions throughout the asset lifecycle, from site selection and development through to commercial operation.
- Assess how network constraints, market reforms and system needs affect revenues, costs, risks and value opportunities.
- Conduct power flow and congestion studies using in-house tools and external consultants.
- Translate complex technical and commercial analysis into clear, decision-ready recommendations for senior management.
- Build and improve AI-enabled approaches for data analysis, simulations and model validation across the team's work.
- Connect technical and commercial perspectives across a matrix organisation, helping teams align around shared priorities.
Job requirements and experience
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Energy Systems, Energy Economics or a similar field.
- At least five years' relevant experience gained at a utility, renewable developer, grid or system operator, energy consultancy or similar organisation.
- Strong knowledge of the UK power system, including transmission and distribution networks, grid connections, constraints, network charging, power markets and balancing markets.
- Strong analytical skills and hands-on experience of power flow simulations using tools such as DIgSILENT, Python or similar software.
- Professional fluency in English, with the ability to explain complex technical information clearly to technical, commercial and senior audiences.
- A collaborative and curious approach, with the confidence to challenge constructively, share knowledge and move decisions forward in an evolving environment.
Advantageous, but not essential
- Experience designing and scaling responsible AI-enabled approaches for data analysis, simulations and model validation.
- Familiarity with energy regulation or market design in other European countries or at EU level.
- Additional European language skills.

What They Do
RWE is a leading German energy company with a diverse portfolio focused on power generation and energy infrastructure projects. The company operates offshore and onshore wind farms, solar photovoltaic plants, battery storage systems, as well as flexible gas-fired power plants, and invests heavily in hydrogen technologies. In 2025, 41% of its power generation came from renewable energy sources, while gas and coal accounted for 31% and 27% respectively (source: rwe.com). With an installed capacity of 46.8 GW at the end of 2025, including 3.3 GW offshore wind and 1.7 GW battery storage, RWE ranks among the world’s largest developers in these sectors (source: rwe.com). The company focuses on developing and operating energy assets for utilities, industrial customers, and market participants, distinguished by its scale, broad technology range, and strong presence in the North Sea and US markets (source: rwe.com).
Projects & Track Record
RWE delivers numerous large-scale renewable energy projects, including the 1,400 MW Sofia offshore wind farm in the United Kingdom, the 1,080 MW Thor project in Denmark, and the North Sea clusters A and B in Germany with capacities of 660 MW and 900 MW respectively (source: rwe.com). In total, five major wind farms are under construction in the North Sea, adding around 3.1 GW of generation capacity (source: rwe.com). In the US, RWE commissioned six renewable energy projects totaling 999 MW in 2025, including wind, solar, and battery storage facilities across four states (source: rwe.com). In Lingen, Germany, RWE is building a 300 MW electrolyzer as part of the GET H2 Nukleus project, along with a 34 MW hydrogen-compatible gas turbine for reconversion of green hydrogen to power (source: rwe.com). Additionally, RWE operates Megabattery 117+, one of Germany’s largest battery storage systems, used in wholesale and balancing markets (source: rwe.com).
Recent Developments
In 2025, RWE commissioned 2.8 GW of new power plant capacity, investing approximately €10.8 billion gross, bringing the installed capacity to 46.8 GW (source: rwe.com). For the period 2026 to 2031, the company plans net investments of €35 billion to expand renewable energy, battery storage, and flexible power plant capacity by 25 GW to around 65 GW (source: rwe.com). This includes €9 billion for flexible backup and large battery projects, as well as up to 3 GW of hydrogen-capable gas power plants in Germany, plus €7 billion for onshore wind and solar in Europe and Australia (source: rwe.com).
