About the role:

BlueWave is seeking a Director of Preconstruction & Procurement to support late-stage solar and battery storage projects from development through contracting and construction readiness. As a key member of a lean Preconstruction team, this role will take hands-on ownership of planning, estimating, scheduling, constructability, risk management, strategic sourcing, procurement, and contracting to ensure projects are fully scoped, priced, contracted, and supplied for successful execution.

Reporting to the VP of Preconstruction, the Director will collaborate with Project Development, Engineering, Project Execution, Finance, Legal, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and other external partners. Success requires sound commercial judgment, technical knowledge, clear communication, attention to detail, and strong relationships across the renewable energy supply chain.

This highly cross-functional role requires versatility, the ability to balance detailed project work with commercial decisions, and the initiative to move priorities forward independently. This role is highly hands-on and well suited to someone who enjoys both developing the approach and doing the detailed work required to execute it.

What you'll do:

  • Own and execute integrated preconstruction and procurement strategies for solar and battery storage projects, aligning scope, schedule, budget, contracts, and material availability.
  • Conduct constructability reviews, construction sequencing, cost and schedule assessments, and risk reviews to prepare projects for execution.
  • Build project cost estimates using historical data, subcontractor pricing, supplier quotes, commodity trends, and market intelligence; maintain cost and lead-time data for future modeling.
  • Develop and maintain critical path schedules with Project Development, Engineering, Project Execution, Finance, and external partners.
  • Create and manage bid packages, RFIs, RFPs, and RFQs for materials, equipment, EPCs, general contractors, and trade partners; evaluate responses and document recommendations.
  • Lead or support negotiations on supply agreements, scopes of work, pricing, delivery terms, service levels, and firm project schedules with Legal and internal stakeholders.
  • Manage contractor and materials buyout, including long-lead equipment planning, supplier selection, award recommendations, contracting, logistics, and inventory planning.
  • Develop data-driven sourcing and negotiation strategies that reduce total cost of ownership while improving availability, quality, service, and innovation.
  • Identify and mitigate procurement, contracting, schedule, budget, logistics, and supply chain risks; support a smooth handoff to Project Execution.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with EPCs, subcontractors, distributors, vendors, and suppliers; set performance expectations and share feedback.
  • Monitor commodity markets, industry indices, supplier capacity, construction practices, and competitive offerings to identify cost-saving and process-improvement opportunities.
  • Partner with Project Development and Finance on project and portfolio budgets, pricing trends, variance analysis, and information needed for construction and term financing.
  • Maintain accurate procurement, cost, schedule, vendor, and material data in Salesforce and other applicable construction or project management systems.
  • Improve preconstruction, sourcing, procurement, inventory, contracting, and project handoff processes.
  • Travel periodically to project sites and contractor, vendor, or supplier locations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field. Master's degree strongly preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in preconstruction, estimating, contracting, sourcing, procurement, or a related field.
  • Experience with solar photovoltaic and battery energy storage projects, or comparable work in renewable energy, power, utilities, or infrastructure.
  • Ability to conduct constructability reviews, develop cost estimates, plan construction sequencing, and translate plans and specifications into executable project approaches.
  • Experience managing competitive bid processes, including RFIs, RFPs, RFQs, bid evaluations, award recommendations, and contract negotiations.
  • Strong understanding of EPC and subcontractor management, supplier relationships, long-lead equipment planning, supply agreements, and construction contracts.
  • Advanced knowledge of critical path scheduling methods and tools such as Microsoft Project or Primavera.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills; experience with Salesforce and construction management software such as Procore.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and align internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience with a U.S. solar developer, independent power producer, EPC contractor, or renewable energy owner-operator.
  • Deep knowledge of solar and storage construction, major equipment, commodity markets, supplier landscapes, and trade practices.
  • Broad knowledge of codes, standards, construction practices, and engineering principles applicable to renewable energy facilities.
  • Established relationships with EPCs, general contractors, subcontractors, distributors, vendors, or suppliers in the solar and storage sector.
  • Experience supporting finance, construction financing, or term financing for renewable energy projects.

The anticipated salary range for this role is $165,000- $175,000 per year + bonus.

Compensation will be influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to internal pay equity, job-related knowledge, skills, education, certifications, and relevant experience as outlined in the job description above.
