Job Description

What you’ll be doing
Responsible for the monitoring, operation, and maintenance of transmission and distribution systems to ensure a reliable and efficient electricity supply. Facilitates the safe transfer of electrical power from substations and installations to end users, minimizing service disruptions and optimizing network performance. Committed to delivering high operational standards, enhancing system resilience, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations to support a dependable power infrastructure.
- Inspect, maintain, repair and construction work on the Transmission Overhead Line network to required policy and standards.
- Ensure compliance with ESQC Regulations and internal inspection policies.
- Execute maintenance, fault repairs, and programmed inspections on the Transmission network to meet productivity targets.
- Perform stand-by duties for customer supply restoration and network security.
- Uphold the Land Code of Conduct, professionally representing the company in external interactions.
- Deliver excellent customer service, ensuring operational efficiency and value for money.
- Enhance network resilience through technical innovation, maintaining transmission assets to expected standards.
- Support plant and overhead line inspection, maintenance, capital works, and emergency repairs on the Transmission System.
- Accurately record inspections, as-built records, and time sheets while identifying and addressing urgent issues.
- Ensure all site works are conducted safely, including contractor supervision and risk assessments.
- Assist in job planning, securing necessary materials, vehicles, and equipment.
- Contribute as a team member in Overhead Line maintenance and inspection.
- Perform inspections, post-fault repairs, and maintenance on tower components like warning lights and step bolts.
- Supervise contractors on tower construction and maintenance, implementing conductor repair techniques as needed.
- Develop expertise and authorizations related to substations, cables, and overhead lines.
- Mentor apprentices and trainees, supporting their professional growth.
- Promote health, safety, and environmental compliance, ensuring best practices are upheld across operations
What you’ll bring
- Extensive knowledge of transmission plant and equipment
- Thorough understanding of Scottish Power health and safety processes and procedures
- Expertise in outage and resource planning
- Strong familiarity with materials, equipment, and techniques related to conductor repairs
- Proficiency in construction and maintenance techniques for overhead line repairs and refurbishment
- Solid grasp of lifting, rigging, and slinging principles and techniques
- Authorized to work on Scottish Power, National Grid, or other REC systems
- Comfortable working at heights up to 400ft
- Effective communicator in interactions with customers and colleagues
- Comprehensive knowledge of ESQC regulations for transmission overhead lines
- Proactive problem-solving, navigating obstacles in day-to-day activities
- Commitment to safety, punctuality, and quality, taking responsibility for actions, decisions, and outcomes
- Strategic thinker, ensuring tasks are completed safely and efficiently within given timescales
- Awareness of team and personal objectives, demonstrating dedication to business success
- Confident decision-maker, consulting supervisors or peers when necessary for confirmation or guidance
As a minimum, you will demonstrate
- Able to demonstrate experience and technical competence in relation to Transmission Operation and Maintenance Activities
- Evidence of system authorisations held
- Proven track record in all aspects of slinging, rigging and OHL repairs and maintenance
- Full valid driver’s licence
- Site Management Safety Training / Safety Passport
