Canadian Solar Inc. is seeking a Field Training Specialist with a primary focus on developing and delivering comprehensive training programs for field technicians. This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and continually improving hands-on technical training to ensure team members are equipped with the latest industry knowledge and operational best practices. The successful candidate will possess a strong background in electrical and mechanical systems, enabling them to provide expert guidance and support to technical teams as needed. Working both independently and as part of a team, the Field Training Specialist will play a key role in fostering technical excellence, supporting ongoing professional development, and ensuring optimal performance in the field.
Responsibilities
Training and Development
- Design and deliver comprehensive technical training programs tailored for field technicians, ensuring that all team members are equipped with current industry knowledge and best operational practices.
- Establish and update Job Qualification Standards (JQS) for various technician roles to support ongoing professional growth.
- Assess training needs, recommend solutions, and measure the effectiveness of programs to drive continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts and external partners to develop and enhance curriculum and training materials.
- Facilitate hands-on and classroom training sessions, applying expertise in electrical and mechanical systems to provide practical guidance and support.
- Continuously update lesson plans and technical content to reflect the latest advancements and operational requirements.
- Deliver operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting training to support optimal field performance and technical excellence.
- Assist in creating and updating standard operating procedures for maintenance, field operations, and training.
- Partner with the maintenance team and sub-contractors to implement best practices and improve system performance.
- Communicate clearly with diverse teams to resolve technical challenges and promote a culture of safety, learning, and high performance.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting
- Address daily project system issues to achieve uptime objectives.
- Conduct routine maintenance and determine actions required before escalating issues.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot various project systems, including inverters, switchgear, and transformers.
- Follow maintenance schedules and perform start-up tests on equipment as scheduled.
- Identify potential problems and recommend corrective measures.
- Supervise sub-contractors as needed.
Qualifications and Experience
- 3+ years of field technician experience on a renewable energy project site preferred.
- 2-4 years of hands-on training experience, preferably in renewable energy.
- Solar / BESS experience highly preferred; construction or EPC experience will be taken into consideration.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, drawings, manuals, and specifications.
- College diploma/degree in Engineering Technology, or Engineering preferred, equivalent work experience will be considered.
- Strong work ethic, positive team attitude and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Electrical background specifically in preventative and corrective maintenance preferred.
- Proficient in MS Office and Learning Management Systems (LMS).
- High quality written and verbal communication skills, strong listening, interpersonal, and influencing skills.
- Ability to travel 30-50% when required.
