Manufacturing & Production Jobs in Renewable Energy

Manufacturing and production in renewable energy covers the factories that build solar modules, battery cells, turbine blades, fuel cells, and electrolysers, and the engineers, supervisors, and operators who run, improve, and scale those production lines. The work is shaped by one fact above all. According to the IEA, China's share of every manufacturing stage of solar panels exceeds 80%, from polysilicon to finished modules, and most other clean energy supply chains lean the same way.

Industrial policy drives the hiring

Outside China, factory jobs follow policy. The EU's Net-Zero Industry Act, adopted in May 2024, aims to manufacture at least 40% of the EU's clean energy deployment needs domestically by 2030. In practice, European hiring is concentrated in a few flagship plants rather than spread across the continent. Verkor, headquartered in Grenoble, staffs its battery gigafactory at Bourbourg near Dunkirk, and Nordex builds blades and nacelles in Germany, Spain, and elsewhere. Europe has also seen failures, most visibly Northvolt's bankruptcy in 2025, so candidates weigh a factory's order book and funding as carefully as the salary.

The United States accounts for most of the manufacturing listings on Rejobs. Silfab Solar hires for module and cell production in Burlington, Washington, and Fort Mill, South Carolina; Canadian Solar and First Solar run large module plants; Bloom Energy makes solid oxide fuel cells in Fremont, California; and Eos Energy Enterprises builds zinc-based batteries near Pittsburgh. The largest single recruiter is a fusion company: Commonwealth Fusion Systems in Devens, Massachusetts, manufactures the high-temperature superconducting magnets for its reactors in-house, and Helion Energy builds its fusion machines and many of their components in Everett, Washington.

What the work involves

Production roles fall into three layers. Operators and technicians run the equipment: stringers and laminators on a module line, coating and calendering machines in a battery plant, layup and infusion in a blade factory. Supervisors and area managers run shifts and hit output targets. Manufacturing and process engineers own the line itself, working on yield, cycle time, scrap, and the ramp-up of new equipment, which in a new gigafactory can take years to reach nameplate output.

The most common titles on Rejobs are manufacturing engineer, process engineer, production supervisor, production technician, and quality technician, with welders and equipment maintenance technicians close behind. Quality is inseparable from production here: a defect that escapes a factory can surface years later across a whole project, which is why Quality Assurance & Control teams sit on the same shop floor.

Skills that command a premium

The IEA estimates that the solar PV supply chain creates around 1,300 manufacturing jobs for every gigawatt of production capacity, but the scarce people are those who have already brought a line up to volume. Engineers with ramp-up experience in semiconductors, automotive, or chemicals move into Battery Manufacturing and Solar Cell & Module Manufacturing at a premium, because cleanroom discipline, statistical process control, and automation skills transfer directly. Technicians who can maintain and programme automated equipment, not only operate it, are the other bottleneck on every new site.
