Marketing & Communications Jobs in Renewable Energy
Marketing and communications in renewable energy covers brand, content, public relations, design, and events for companies that sell green electricity tariffs, rooftop solar, heat pumps, charging, and grid-scale projects. The work has a legal edge that consumer marketing elsewhere is only now acquiring: from 27 September 2026, the EU's Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive prohibits generic environmental claims such as "green" or "eco-friendly" unless they are specified and substantiated, and restricts climate-neutral claims that rest on carbon offsets alone.
Why the job differs in energy
For an energy supplier, the environmental claim is the product. A tariff sold as renewable must be backed by certificates or supply contracts that marketing teams need to understand well enough to describe accurately, and the same caution now applies to installers promising payback periods and self-sufficiency rates. In the UK the stakes rose earlier: since April 2025, the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act has let the Competition and Markets Authority fine businesses up to 10% of global turnover for misleading consumers, without going to court first. Marketers who can work with sustainability and legal teams on claim substantiation have become harder to find than those who can run a campaign.
Communications roles face a different audience. Developers such as ENERTRAG, and transmission and generation businesses such as Scottish Power, run press, public affairs, and local engagement for projects that need planning consent and public tolerance, work that overlaps with community and stakeholder engagement and is judged by whether a wind farm or grid line gets built, not by reach metrics.
Key employers and locations
Energy suppliers post the most roles. Octopus Energy, Good Energy, Fuse Energy, and Vattenfall hire for brand, growth, and customer marketing, and Hamburg-based Rabot Energy, which sells dynamic electricity tariffs priced by the hour, is the single most active poster in this category. Berlin leads by a wide margin, with roughly twice as many listings as London, followed by Hamburg, Amsterdam, Glasgow, and Munich. German-language postings are common, and the Werkstudent (part-time student) marketing role is a standard entry point in Germany.
The most frequent titles are Marketing Manager, Product Marketing Manager, Content Manager, Social Media Manager, and Growth Marketing Manager, with Head of Marketing roles at scale-ups. Product designers and UX designers often sit in the same teams at digital-first suppliers, where the app is the main customer channel.
Skills that pay
Performance marketing skills transfer from any consumer business, but the premium goes to people who understand the energy product they sell: how a dynamic tariff tracks the day-ahead market, why a heat pump's running costs depend on the insulation of the house, what a guarantee of origin does and does not prove. In business-to-business marketing, the same logic applies to power purchase agreements and flexibility services, and product marketers who work closely with sales and account management teams move into commercial leadership. With enforcement now starting on both sides of the Channel, a record of claims that held up under scrutiny is becoming part of a senior marketer's CV.
