Marketing and communications roles in renewable energy cover brand strategy, content production, media relations, and stakeholder messaging for companies selling clean power, storage, charging infrastructure, and related services to households, businesses, and policymakers. The work differs from generic B2B marketing in three concrete ways. First, regulatory exposure: claims about emissions reductions, lifetime carbon, and "green" attributes are legally enforceable under the EU's Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive, which member states must transpose by March 2026 and which becomes binding the following September. A loosely worded campaign is no longer a brand risk - it is a compliance risk. Second, the buyer is unusually informed. Solar installers, fleet operators, utilities, and corporate procurement teams know the cost-of-energy maths, and copy that overstates capacity factor or payback time loses credibility on first read. Third, much of the audience is policy-adjacent: communications to regulators, grid operators, and journalists shape permitting timelines and tariff outcomes that matter more than consumer impression metrics.
Where the jobs are
Hiring concentrates in the European energy capitals. Listings on Rejobs cluster heavily around Berlin, London, Amsterdam, Hamburg, and Munich, with a long tail in Cologne, Brussels, and Prague. Utility and supplier incumbents recruit the largest teams - Vattenfall and Octopus Energy both run permanent marketing departments running into dozens of seats. Manufacturer-side hiring comes from companies like SOLARWATT, while project developers such as GP Joule hire for the harder edge of technical communications - the kind that sits closer to permitting hearings than to consumer brand.

In Germany, marketing manager base salaries in the sector sit broadly in the €55,000-€75,000 range, with sustainability-leaning roles reaching the upper €80,000s. Senior communications leadership at major utilities pays meaningfully higher, particularly in London and Berlin. Spoken German remains a near-prerequisite for DACH listings; the postings here are split roughly evenly between English-language and German-language roles, and many ask for both.
