Job Description

To date, BELECTRIC has installed over 480 PV systems with a total output of more than 4 GW worldwide. As one of the world's largest O&M service providers, the solar energy specialist also takes care of operation and maintenance for a capacity of 1.7 GW of PV plants. We are seeking a dynamic BESS Engineer for the North of England region to work on Battery Storage projects within the existing Operations and Maintenance (O&M) team, performing both preventative and corrective maintenance tasks. This role specifically requires expertise in BESS, as the postholder will provide second-line service for BESS technologies and will be expected to undertake all elements of BESS maintenance and service work. This role will require occasional out of hours working, call outs and overnight stays away from home.
Your Tasks
- Perform hands-on electrical and mechanical work including wiring, racking, and interconnection.
- Configure and test BMS (Battery Management System), EMS (Energy Management System), and PCS (Power Conversion System) components.
- Conduct pre-commissioning checks, system calibration, and functional verification testing.
- Troubleshoot and resolve electrical, communication, and control system issues on-site.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols, electrical codes, and equipment manufacturer standards.
- Perform regular maintenance, diagnostics, and performance monitoring of deployed BESS units.
- Maintain detailed logs, site reports, commissioning documentation, and as-built drawings.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical contractors, OEM vendors, and project managers.
- Support training and handover for operations & maintenance teams post-commissioning.
Your profile
- Level 3 City & Guilds/NVQ qualification in electrical installations
- C&G 2391-52 or equivalent
- C&G 2382-18
- HV AP qualification
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience with BESS systems or high-voltage electrical systems.
- Experience working with battery technologies (lithium-ion, LFP, NMC, or flow) and associated safety protocols.
- Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting tools (multimeter, oscilloscope, insulation testers, etc.).
- Familiarity with PCS (inverters), switchgear, SCADA, and low-voltage/high-voltage systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and manufacturer manuals.
- Knowledge of energy storage standards and grid compliance requirements.
- Comfortable working in remote or active construction sites with flexible hours and travel.
- BESS-specific OEM training (preferred but not required).
