Job Description

As a Technical Vessel Manager within our Fleet Organization, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the profitability, efficiency, and long-term reliability of your assigned vessels. You will be the leading figure in technical management: challenging execution methods, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring that every technical decision supports DEME's long-term mission and strategic direction.

You will work closely with technical and operational teams to develop maintenance plans and achieve project goals. Additionally, you will oversee budget management, project coordination, and fleet support for technical interventions.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the technical management of your vessels, ensuring high availability, reliability, and performance.
  • Challenge technical execution, decision-making, and processes - continuously striving for improvement and operational excellence.
  • Ensure compliance with DEME's long-term mission, vision, and strategy for your vessels.
  • Be accountable for the profit and loss of your vessels, optimizing revenue, utilization, and maintenance with a strategic, long-term mindset.
  • Define and implement a long-term maintenance strategy in collaboration with the Master and Chief Engineer.
  • Oversee and manage Maintenance Intervention Projects, led by the Fleet Intervention Project Manager.
  • Act as the primary liaison for Technical Engineering, Fleet Interventions, and Reliability Engineering, fostering effective collaboration and best-practice sharing across the fleet.
  • Oversee and manage the maintenance budget for each vessel.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable legislation and regulations related to vessel operations and safety.
  • Visit vessels regularly to ensure alignment, build strong relationships with onboard teams, and maintain operational oversight.

Qualifications

  • You hold a technical degree (e.g. Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field), or have equivalent experience gained through years of hands-on work in the maritime industry.
  • Proven experience in leading technical teams and managing technical operations in a maritime or engineering environment.
  • Strong technical expertise and understanding of marine systems, propulsion, electrical, and hydraulic installations, as well as maintenance methodologies.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to develop vision, make informed decisions, and apply effective risk management.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data, reports, and performance metrics to drive improvement and reliability.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders - both onshore and onboard.
  • Familiarity with financial processes, procurement, contract management, and project management.
  • Willingness to be based at our headquarters with regular vessel visits to stay connected to the operational reality of your vessels.
