Boralex has been providing renewable and affordable energy for over 30 years. The Group, composed of more than 800 employees, operates renewable assets with an installed capacity of over 3 GW and is developing a project portfolio of 6.8 GW in wind, solar, and energy storage.

The environmental intern will have several exciting challenges, including working with the existing team to manage environmental issues at the company's various operating sites. You will have the opportunity to represent Boralex as a leader in environmental matters. You will assist the US Environmental Assessment and Permitting team in the context of a rapidly growing company.

You will play an important role in

  • Analyzing, understanding, and applying environmental regulations applicable to permitting of renewable energy facilities, ensuring compliance and fostering sustainable practices;
  • Developing procedures and instructions to effectively address environmental requirements, contributing to streamlined practices within the team;
  • Creating innovative tools and resources for the US Environment Team to increase efficiency in environmental assessment and permitting of renewable energy projects in the US;
  • Supporting the Environmental Assessment and Permitting managers in obtaining municipal, state, and federal permits required for solar energy facilities, facilitating project advancement and regulatory compliance;
  • Demonstrating independence and proactive problem-solving skills by identifying and implementing solutions with minimal guidance, while leveraging emerging technologies, such as AI, to enhance team capabilities and address challenges effectively.
  • Facilitating adherence to company policies and external BMPs by supporting Environmental Assessment and Permitting Managers in the effective use and implementation of environmental management tools and practices;
  • Raising employee awareness of internal requirements and industry best practices in environmental assessment and permitting of renewable facilities;

To succeed in this position, you must have

  • Be in the process of obtaining a bachelor's or master's degree in a field relevant to the environment;
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations applicable in New York State;
  • Knowledge of regulations applicable in the United States is an asset;
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills;
  • The ability to travel occasionally within the United States and Canada.
  • Rigorous, with strong analytical and organizational skills.
