We are seeking a Technical Development Manager to lead the technical training, skills development and authorisation framework within our Service Operations team. This is a pivotal role responsible for strengthening technical capability, supporting career development pathways, and ensuring operational excellence across the business.
The Role
The Technical Development Manager will oversee all aspects of technical training, leadership development and compliance within Service Operations. The role combines training strategy, operational governance, industry representation and talent development.
You will lead the delivery of technical and company-specific training programmes, manage WTSR authorisation processes, support Authorising Engineers (AEs), and act as a key link between Service Operations, HSEQ and People & Culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as Authorising Officer, overseeing WTSR authorisation panels and ensuring compliance with operational standards.
- Manage and support Authorising Engineers, ensuring adherence to company governance and safety requirements.
- Lead the development and delivery of technical training programmes across induction, early careers, advanced skills and leadership pathways.
- Oversee the Wind Turbine Technician (WTT) logbook process to support structured career progression.
- Conduct departmental and contractor audits to ensure operational and regulatory compliance.
- Manage contractor relationships in line with safety and operational expectations.
- Partner with the People & Culture team to build relationships with colleges and training providers, strengthening the technician talent pipeline.
- Supervise trainees and college placements, ensuring high-quality learning experiences.
- Support the Head of Service with training matrices, development planning and operational tasks.
- Prepare quarterly reports on training development and WTSR authorisation activity.
- Lead biweekly HSEQ meetings to promote a safe and compliant working environment.
- Represent Natural Power at industry forums, championing safety and operational best practice.
Person Profile
Essential Experience
- Minimum 5 years' industry experience
- Strong knowledge of WTSR and operational governance
Desirable
- Degree or diploma in engineering, training or management
- HV Safety Rules experience
- HSEQ qualification (IOSH, NEBOSH or equivalent)
- Experience managing technical training programmes within engineering or manufacturing
Skills & Competencies
- Confident and engaging communicator, comfortable presenting at all levels
- Strong leadership and relationship-building skills
- Highly organised, able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Commercial awareness and sound decision-making ability
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
