What They Do

ib vogt specializes in **Utility-Scale Solar PV** as its core technology and expands its portfolio to include battery energy storage systems (BESS), wind projects, and hybrid solutions. The company offers comprehensive turnkey services across the entire value chain, including development, design and engineering, financing, engineering-procurement-construction (EPC), operation and maintenance (O&M), as well as asset management (source: ibvogt.com). The products and services emphasize manufacturer-independent, customized solar power plants optimized for lifecycle performance, investor returns, plant size, IRR, and system economics. Job Description

The Senior Business Development Manager (SBDM) for the Data Center Task Force is a senior individual contributor responsible for designing, piloting, and scaling new business models at the intersection of renewable energy and digital infrastructure. The SBDM will work closely with interdisciplinary teams to identify, develop, and implement innovative solutions - such as energy-enabled land, integrated microgrids, and power purchase agreements (PPAs) - that position the company as a preferred partner for data center operators and hyperscalers. This role is pivotal in driving the company's diversification into the data center sector, leveraging renewable expertise to create new revenue streams and strengthen market resilience.

Key Responsibilities

1. Business Model Innovation & Strategy

  • Design and validate new business models for data center partnerships, including but not limited to energy campus concepts, powered land development, and integrated renewable solutions.
  • Conduct market scans, techno-economic analyses, and feasibility studies to identify high-potential opportunities and strategic partners (e.g. providers of data center development solutions, providers of firm energy).
  • Develop and maintain a playbook for data center market entry and expansion, incorporating learnings from pilot projects.

2. Pilot Project Execution

  • Lead the execution of pilot projects, from site identification and partner engagement to contract negotiation and project launch, as the primary project owner.
  • Structure joint ventures, PPAs, and infrastructure partnerships, ensuring alignment with company objectives and risk management standards.
  • Capture and document lessons learned, translating pilot outcomes into scalable business processes and offerings.

3. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with experts in grid infrastructure, permitting, legal, finance, and commercial development to ensure project success.
  • Foster a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement within project teams.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project alignment and resource optimization.

4. Stakeholder Engagement & Market Development

  • Develop and maintain relationships with data center operators, utilities, investors, and technology partners.
  • Represent the company at industry events, forums, and with regulatory bodies to position the organization as a thought leader in renewable-powered digital infrastructure.
  • Monitor market trends, regulatory changes, and competitor activity to inform strategy and maintain a competitive edge.

5. Commercial & Financial Expertise

  • Drive the origination and closing of high-value deals, including land development, PPAs, and infrastructure services.
  • Prepare and present investment-grade business cases to senior management and external partners.
  • Ensure robust financial modeling, risk assessment, and compliance with internal governance standards in collaboration with the Head of Portfolio Analytics.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of business development or commercial experience in renewable energy, data centers, or critical infrastructure sectors.
  • Proven track record in designing and executing new business models, leading pilot projects, and scaling new lines of business.
  • Strong project management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in financial modeling, contract negotiation, and risk management.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and strategic thinking abilities.
  • Willingness to travel and represent the company in international markets.

Additional Information

  • A truly international working environment with colleagues from all over the world
  • An open-minded, friendly, dynamic, and highly motivated team
