Position Summary
The CPS Energy Internship Program is designed to meet the industry's rapidly changing workforce needs by providing San Antonio college students with public utility career experience. Through the internship program students are paired with a mentor to acquire meaningful hands-on experiences that expands their understanding of the industry and exposes them to essential skills they must acquire or develop to succeed. The internship is designed for the intern to learn to perform in a work environment and understand the rationale behind the strategies used. Applicants must reside in the San Antonio Metropolitan area and are currently enrolled in school or recently graduated to qualify.
GIS Intern obtains entry level experience in Energy/Utilities Field Operations Applications Support - Geographical Information System (GIS), Work Management Information System (WMIS) and Mobile Data System (MDS), application development, configuration management, system administration, hardware support, software support, maintenance, security, troubleshooting. Responsible for solution design, development, integration, and enhancements to meet the business needs and project requirements. Also, responsible for documenting and developing operational procedures and provides end user support.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Support Utility Field Operations Applications - Geographical Information System (GIS), Work Management Information System (WMIS) and Mobile Data System (MDS) to provide a safe, reliable, and affordable electric and gas service to the customers.
- Install, Configure, Test and Implement GIS, WMIS and MDS applications and apply the latest patches in Windows, Linux, and Citrix environments.
- Assist with development of enterprise applications that will be used across various business units to provide and maintain electric and gas service in a safe and reliable manner.
- Develop, test, promote the code and configuration from the lower environments to Production with the assistance from other team members.
- Provide end user application support for Electric and Gas Business Areas.
- Learn to analyzes and troubleshoots application/system issues and provides resolution.
- Work with Infrastructure team in GIS, WMIS, and MDS server builds, OS patching, hardware tuning and health monitoring.
- Work with Database Administrator to set up database backups, patches, refreshes, schema changes, etc.
- Work with functional teams to integrate GIS, WMIS, and MDS applications with other enterprise applications (e.g., OMS and SAP etc.)
- Work with business areas to understand their requirements and complete the assigned tasks.
Minimum Skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Must be currently enrolled in a related discipline.
- A minimum GPA of 2.5.
- Must currently reside within 120 miles of CPS Energy Headquarters.
