Job Description

Reporting to the Head of Smart Solutions Delivery & Performance, this role is responsible for the application, development and management of necessary obligations to ensure compliance with ScottishPower's Technical Quality and Health & Safety standards in relation to the Smart Solutions business and its partner contracts.

The post holder will be responsible and accountable for maintaining and improving standards across a range of Low Carbon Technology (LCT) installation/ service providers, together with ensuring Regulatory and Policy compliance related to the LCT market. In addition, the post holder will be the Smart Solutions business expert in relation to general regulatory and compliance matters, coordinating with internal departments and external parties to ensure a thorough understanding of the relevant regulations and requirements across the Smart Solutions activity.

What you'll be doing

  • Manage the quality and technical compliance of all contractors/ partners and ensure that they comply with or exceed the demands of the relevant regulatory bodies, contractual obligations and relevant codes of practice
  • Ensure the management and delivery of core processes are robust and meet the relevant standards. This again applies to internal and external activities and includes establishing appropriate controls, monitoring of the activity, audits and reporting requirements
  • Ensure all areas of Smart Solutions are compliant with relevant legislation or codes of practice provided by appropriate bodies. This may include interaction and lobbying of appropriate industry bodies responsible for the development of standards across the Smart Solutions business activities
  • Engage with Senior level management in supplier organisations to establish and construct a positive working relationship and provide assurance of a diligent approach to compliance of the schemes they operate, encourage and develop cross industry learning and sharing of best practice across the contractor network
  • Manage the governance framework and processes for Smart Solutions and provide input on technical and Regulatory compliance concerns, escalating issues and trends for management consideration
  • Ensure all partners & contractors comply as required with UK Retail policies and contractual requirements to meet ScottishPower's obligations
  • Liaise with ScottishPower's Internal Audit, Legal, Regulation, Business Control and Risk teams in respect of Smart Solutions matters to ensure full adherence to all conditions and become the Smart Solutions point of contact for Policy and consultation responses
  • Ensure the management team is briefed on all issues relating to external bodies regarding the Smart Solutions business. Negotiate and influence on key process decisions/ changes relating to compliance management
  • Ensure that all Smart Solutions processes will be maintained and supported utilising ISO 9001, 27001 and 45001 procedures or equivalent
  • Lead and manage the effective performance management of relevant direct reports, complying with company practice and procedures in setting and managing appropriate objectives to deliver the required elements from the team
  • Report, monitor and manage critical Technical, Health & Safety, Quality Assurance, Business Continuity, Regulatory/Insurance compliance and incident KPI measures to ensure performance targets are managed & delivered

What you'll bring

  • Experience in a regulatory or compliance role, preferably with an understanding of the variable skills required in dealing with the wide range of commercial and regulatory bodies
  • Experience of internal and external audit, controls assessment and implementation within a large organisation and the suppliers that ScottishPower may interface with
  • Experience in risk management processes & policy formation
  • Technical knowledge and awareness of relevant codes and standards relating to Health & Safety, Low Carbon Technologies, electrical safety, gas safety, safe working practices, quality systems and the regulatory framework around insurance products
  • Strong performance management skills with a proven ability to manage 3rd party suppliers to agreed commercial & contracted service levels/agreements
  • Ability to co-ordinate and develop internal and external relationships and strategies that will achieve and support financial, regulatory, quality and supply chain targets
  • Strong risk awareness with the ability to escalate issues appropriately to management.
  • Proven record in managing complex and multi-dimensional disciplines to include well developed influencing, negotiation, commercial, analytical and problem-solving skills at a senior level
  • Ability to lead change and manage complex interfaces and relationships with other departments within and across the UK Retail business, whilst maintaining complete compliance with commercial agreements, regulatory obligations & licence codes

Minimum Criteria

  • Graduate or equivalent experience at senior operational level with a proven track record in people management, change management, quality and risk management
  • In depth Electrical and Technical Knowledge of Low Carbon Technologies (Solar PV, Battery Storage, Heat Pumps and EV Charge Points), Gas Boiler maintenance and associated regulatory requirements.
  • Well-developed influencing and negotiation skills at a senior level
  • Some management experience in utilities industry with a clear understanding of the complexities inherent in the energy and energy service marketplace
  • Previous experience in managing external service providers in large scale contracts, preferably in an engineering-based environment
  • Experience in monitoring and managing Technical, Health & Safety, Quality Assurance, Regulatory/Insurance compliance and incident measures
