Product Line Thrusters&Propulsion Controls (T&PCS) controls, develops, supports and promotes Wärtsilä Thruster products and technologies, used on ships all around the World. Specific focus will be given to strategically important ship segments in offshore, cruise and ferries, tugboats, and various merchant vessels. Our team Product Sales & Product Management is in core of the business: we ensure the competitiveness of our thruster product portfolio in long run, and as well secure capturing of actual sales prospects in short term.
Due to positive development of the business, we strengthen our Product Sales & Product Management team with a Product Lifecycle engineer.
As Product Lifecycle Engineer, Thrusters
You will find yourself in the heart of the exciting world of the Maritime industry, working in truly international environment where Wärtsilä is recognised as a global leader in path of decarbonising the industry. Long term success requires effective sales process and continuous development of products. As Product lifecycle Engineer you will be in key role to secure our success in these areas.
Preferred location for this position is Drunen, Netherlands. Also Helsinki, Finland can be considered.
What you will be doing
In your role you will work in close co-operation with product managers, product sales managers, sales engineers and R&D to ensure that sales projects have up-to date technical material and knowledge in use. You will carry out technical studies in fast paced sales projects where our standard products or features require adoption to specific customer needs. As well you are continuously developing further the technical materials and offering tool structures of our standard product portfolio, ensuring that sales is able to select the optimal product and features for each customer need. You will focus on our baseline products transverse thrusters, steerable thrusters and retractable thrusters that are applied in all vessel segments. In this role you will grow to be a recognised expert in thruster technology, supported by experienced colleagues within our team and in our product unit.
Your main responsibilities are to
- Continuously develop the technical product portfolio and related material to be more competitive and easy-to-sell.
- Lead through technical studies related to improvements, upgrades and customer specific requests
- Ensure that selections in our product configurator tool are up to date in technical point of view, and develop further functionalities in co-operation with sales tool development team
- Co-operate with R&D when implementing new products and features into offering portfolio
- Collect feedback from projects and operation to develop the product portfolio competitiveness further
- Ensure that the quality of a product aligns with quality standards as well as regulatory requirements.
Main requirements in this role are
- Technical background and at least 3 years experience in field of heavy machinery, preferably in connection to marine business.
- Proven knowledge in mechanical engineering, machine components and manufacturing methods
- Basic understanding of end-to-end delivery chain of heavy machinery products.
- Barchelor's or Master's degree in mechanical engineering.
- Interest and will to understand the needs of customer, sales and sales engineering, and how to impact on the smooth sales process with technical support and improvements in product portfolio and technical solutions.
- Capability to co-operate with different stakeholder groups: Engineering, R&D, Sales, Sales tools development, Production, Supply Management, Product Management
- Good communication skills, professional use of English in verbal and writing.
- Practical experience in NX/Teamcenter engineering environment is considered as an asset
