What They Do

Smappee specializes in smart energy management, with a primary focus on monitoring and optimizing electricity consumption, complemented by solar energy integration and electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions (source: smappee.com). The company's technology focuses on three interconnected areas: real-time analysis of energy consumption at the device level, optimization of self-sufficiency through solar energy management and battery storage integration, and intelligent infrastructure for EV charging (source: smappee.com). The flagship product is the Smappee energy monitor, launched in June of a reference year for 199 euros, capable of identifying individual energy consumption of devices (source: smappee.com). This system allows users to monitor energy flows and direct excess solar energy to major consumers and battery storage systems (source: smappee.com). The previous venture of founder Grosjean, EnergyICT, illustrates the impact of Smappee, where the company monitored 10,000 energy meters at Tesco, the largest supermarket chain in the UK, reducing energy consumption by 20% (source: smappee.com). Smappee has also formed strategic partnerships with companies such as Watt Footprint and Chargefox, demonstrating the integration of ecosystems in smart energy management and EV charging (source: smappee.com).

The company also received the prestigious Red Dot: Best of the Best Award for Design Concept for its EV line, underscoring the company's recognition as an innovator in smart energy solutions (source: smappee.com). Job Description

Smappee (Smart Appliance for Energy Efficiency) helps businesses and individuals take control of their energy consumption. Through innovative energy management and EV charging solutions, we make energy efficiency accessible, helping reduce costs and contributing to a more sustainable future.

Why is an EV requesting 150 kW, but the charger is only delivering 60 kW?

The answer isn't always visible in one error message or one dashboard.

It could be related to the charger, the vehicle, available power, temperature, configuration, communication or another part of the charging ecosystem. Finding the answer means bringing different pieces of technical information together and understanding what the data is telling you.

If that sounds like the kind of puzzle you enjoy solving, we'd like to meet you.

To strengthen our Customer Service team at Smappee, we're looking for a Technical Support Specialist - EV Charging & Diagnostics with a strong analytical mindset and an interest in DC fast charging.

What can you expect?

You'll provide technical support to our certified installers and partners through phone, email, and our ticketing system, with a particular focus on technically complex EV charging cases.

You will:

  • Provide technical support to installers and partners on Smappee EV charging solutions via phone, email and ticketing.
  • Develop in-depth expertise in Smappee's DC charging solutions and act as a specialist for DC-related troubleshooting.
  • Investigate charging performance and behaviour by analysing data from multiple systems, dashboards and technical sources.
  • Diagnose complex issues by evaluating logs, measurements, configurations, communication flows, energy availability and vehicle interactions.
  • Guide installers through troubleshooting processes and clearly communicate findings and recommended actions.
  • Resolve technical cases independently where possible, escalate complex issues when needed, and document analyses in a structured manner.
  • Collaborate with Customer Service, Sales Engineers and R&D to identify recurring issues, contribute to knowledge sharing, and continuously improve diagnostics and support proces
  • Go onsite when necessary to help resolve a technical issue

Requirements

What do you bring?

We don't expect you to know about the Smappee ecosystem before you join. We are looking for someone who combines a technical foundation with a strong analytical mindset.

You may come from EV charging, electrical engineering, electromechanics, field service, industrial technology, technical support or another technical environment.

Ideally:

  • You have a technical degree or equivalent experience in electrical engineering, electromechanics, electronics, automotive technology or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of electrical concepts and the ability to work with technical measurements, data and system diagnostics.
  • Analytical and solution-oriented mindset with a natural curiosity to investigate and understand technical issues.
  • Ability to combine information from multiple sources, identify patterns and systematically determine root causes.
  • Comfortable working with dashboards, digital tools and new technical systems in a fast-evolving environment.
  • Strong communication skills, enabling you to explain complex technical findings clearly to customers, colleagues and partners.
  • Experience with EV charging, DC power systems, power electronics, electrical installations, OCPP, technical support or field service is an asset; professional proficiency in English and Dutch or French is required.
  • You're willing to travel onsite occasionally when a case requires hands-on investigation.

Why this role?

You'll work at the intersection of electrical engineering, data and customer support.

Rather than simply processing tickets, you'll investigate technical cases, develop deep expertise in EV charging and help turn complex technical information into solutions for installers and partners.

As your expertise grows, you'll have the opportunity to take ownership of increasingly complex DC cases and contribute to how Smappee improves its products, diagnostics and technical support.

Benefits

At Smappee we believe in a modern and dynamic work environment where you can be yourself and truly inspire people to contribute to a better planet. What can you expect exactly?

  • An inspiring office environment at cleantech hub Snowball: a place where companies with a heart for sustainable innovation can get inspired and grow.
  • Personal growth with multiple career and personal development opportunities in an organization that is constantly evolving.
  • A chance to participate in team activities, companywide events and monthly drinks with your colleagues at the HQ.
  • Remuneration according to experience, completed with extra-legal benefits such as meal vouchers, eco vouchers, health insurance, group insurance and holidays supplemented with ADV days.
  • A flex benefits plan with optional benefits such as bicylce leasing, multimedia, home office supplies, additional holidays, refund of individual pension savings and warrants.
  • A job where you can truly contribute to a better planet.
