SolarSquare is India's largest and fastest-growing residential rooftop solar company. We are on a mission to make solar simple, safe, and reliable for every Indian home - powering the country's transition to independent clean energy.

Recognized by the World Economic Forum (Technology Pioneers 2025), TIME & Statista's World's Top GreenTech Companies, and Forbes Top 100 To Watch, SolarSquare is helping shape the future of home energy in India.

The Role

As Lead Product Designer, you will be responsible for raising the quality, consistency, and effectiveness of product design across SolarSquare's entire product surface area. This is a player-coach role - as the first dedicated design leader at SolarSquare, you will lead and develop designers while remaining hands-on as an individual contributor on high-impact problem areas.

Your scope spans SolarSquare's full product surface - customer-facing journeys (acquisition, onboarding, CX app) and internal workflow-heavy products used by sales, operations, and field teams. Design decisions here directly affect how field operators work, how customers experience their energy journey, and how product teams frame and solve problems.

You will establish research as a core practice, build practical design rituals that raise output quality without slowing delivery, and partner closely with product leadership to shape how design works at SSE. This role is designed for someone who enjoys being close to the work and raising quality through craft and judgment.

Scope of Responsibility

  • Own design quality and consistency across SSE's full product breadth - customer journeys, acquisition and onboarding flows, internal operator tools, sales and ops execution, and field-facing applications.
  • Lead, mentor, and review the work of a small team of designers - set clear quality standards, provide hands-on guidance, and build a high-bar design culture from the ground up.
  • Act as an individual contributor on complex or high-impact problem areas - own design end-to-end and set the bar through example.
  • Establish user research as a core practice, including methods suited to non-desk users - field observation, workflow shadowing, and contextual inquiry with operators and ground teams.
  • Partner with PMs upstream in problem discovery - shape problem statements and workflow logic before screens are designed, not after.
  • Establish practical design rituals - reviews, critiques, handoffs, that improve output quality without creating overhead.
  • Mature and evolve SSE's design system, starting from a basic external-agency foundation and iterating toward greater consistency and reuse.
  • Drive design UAT and own the gap between design intent and what ships.
  • Bring AI tools into the design workflow to accelerate iteration, generate rapid variants, and synthesise research at scale - and coach the team to build the same fluency.

What Success Requires

  • 7-10 years of product design experience, with at least 2-3 yrs' experience managing or mentoring junior designers.
  • Strong design fundamentals across both consumer-facing experiences and internal or workflow-heavy products - comfort switching contexts and knowing what each requires.
  • A track record of raising design quality and building design systems in fast-moving environments where processes and inputs are still evolving.
  • Functional design instinct - designs for workflows, task efficiency, and decision support, and not just visual quality.
  • Specific experience designing for non-desk, operator, or field-force users - logistics, field services, manufacturing, healthcare operations, or similar.
  • Comfort with low-fidelity, high-speed prototyping - knows when to sketch and test vs. when to invest in polish, and defaults to the former.
  • Familiarity with AI design tools and a genuine interest in building AI-first workflows within the team - not just personally fluent, but able to bring others along.
  • Ability to hold their ground on design decisions with PMs, engineers, and senior stakeholders without relying on positional authority.
  • Collaborative, low-ego working style that builds trust quickly in a cross-functional environment.

What They Do

SolarSquare Energy specializes in full-stack rooftop solar solutions, focusing primarily on residential distributed solar systems rather than broad renewable energy sectors (source: tracxn.com). The company designs, installs, finances, and maintains solar systems for homes, housing societies, and businesses, managing the entire customer journey from consultation and site assessment through design, permits, installation, and ongoing maintenance (source: solarsquare.in). SolarSquare operates a "no middlemen" model, offering direct execution with a savings guarantee and money-back promise on its home solar offerings, which differentiates it in the Indian market (source: solarsquare.in). Initially focused on B2B rooftop solar, the company pivoted in 2021 to emphasize residential customers, which now account for about 70% of its business, serving nearly 50,000 homes across 29 cities in nine states (source: b.capital). Its dense urban markets include Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi NCR, where demand for rooftop solar is particularly strong (source: inc42.com).

Projects & Track Record

SolarSquare’s project portfolio is characterized by widespread deployment of rooftop solar systems rather than individual large-scale plants. The company powers nearly 50,000 homes across 29 cities in nine states, reflecting a broad geographic footprint and strong penetration in the residential rooftop solar market (source: b.capital). Its customer base spans more than 15 cities including Bengaluru, Pune, Indore, and Lucknow, emphasizing urban and semi-urban residential and housing society installations (source: inc42.com). The company’s focus remains on distributed rooftop solar rather than utility-scale projects, highlighting its role as a full-stack service provider managing design, installation, financing, and maintenance for individual and community rooftops (source: solarsquare.in).

Recent Developments

In June 2026, SolarSquare successfully closed a $53 million Series C funding round led by B Capital, with participation from existing investors Lightspeed Venture Partners, Lowercarbon Capital, Rainmatter by Zerodha, and Good Capital, underscoring strong investor confidence in its growth trajectory (source: vccircle.com). This funding round was aimed at supporting geographic expansion, deeper technology investments, hiring, and scaling its platform capabilities (source: vccircle.com). The Economic Times reported the round valued the company at approximately $450–$500 million, with FY2025 operating revenue reaching ₹355 crore, reflecting rapid financial growth (source: indiatimes.com). Tracxn also notes total funding of $114 million across five rounds as of mid-2026, highlighting sustained capital inflows fueling expansion (source: tracxn.com).

Working There

SolarSquare offers a diverse range of roles across sales, customer consultation, engineering and design, installation operations, project management, financing support, maintenance, technology, and growth functions, reflecting its full-stack rooftop solar business model (source: solarsquare.in). The company’s offices and showrooms in Mumbai, Pune, Jaipur, and Hyderabad indicate hiring opportunities in both headquarters and field operations across multiple urban centers (source: solarsquare.in). LinkedIn identifies SolarSquare as a privately held company with approximately 1,000 to 5,000 employees, providing insight into its organizational scale and complexity (source: linkedin.com). The company culture emphasizes a direct-to-customer service approach with "zero middlemen," end-to-end ownership of the customer journey, and a free consultation process, suggesting a dynamic, execution-focused, and customer-facing work environment (source: solarsquare.in).
