Sales & Account Management jobs in renewable energy

Sales & Account Management Jobs in Renewable Energy

Sales and account management in renewable energy means owning a commercial relationship end to end: finding the buyer, pricing and closing the deal, then carrying the revenue number on that account afterwards. It is not customer service, which resolves problems on accounts somebody else owns, and it is not business development, which opens markets rather than quotas.

Two of the largest markets for these roles moved in opposite directions during 2025. The United States installed 43.2 GW of solar, down 14% on 2024, with the Section 25D tax credit for customer-owned home systems killed off at year end. Germany added 16.4 GW, split almost evenly between rooftops and ground-mounted plant, and needs 19.6 GW a year to hit its 2030 target of 215 GW. The gap between those two sentences explains most of what is happening to hiring in this field.

Three different jobs, one tag

Residential field sales is the highest-volume entry point and the harshest. Appointment setters, solar consultants, and field sales representatives at Sunrun, Momentum Solar, Everlight Solar, and Venture Solar work largely on commission against a household deciding on a twenty-year payback. The loss of 25D removed roughly a third of the customer's economics in one step, which pushed the pitch toward leases and third-party ownership and thinned the ranks of sellers who only knew the tax credit script.

Business-to-business key account management is the German-speaking market's dominant shape, and Key Account Manager is by some distance the most frequently posted title on Rejobs in this category. The work sits with distributors and installer channels: IBC SOLAR in Bad Staffelstein sells commercial and large rooftop systems through a partner network, and the conversation runs on yield modelling, EEG remuneration, Direktvermarktung, and self-consumption ratios rather than on price alone. Cycles run months, deal sizes run into the millions, and the account stays with the manager afterwards.

The third group sells to energy companies rather than end users. OTC FLOW in Amsterdam brokers guarantees of origin and other certificates; RABOT Charge sells dynamic tariffs into German households through utility partners; TEDOM sells cogeneration units; Vaisala sells measurement hardware to wind and solar developers. These are technical sales roles where the buyer is an engineer or a trader.

What actually closes a deal here

The product is an asset with a payback calculation attached, so the buyer's decision arrives as a spreadsheet. A seller who cannot argue with the yield assumption, the degradation rate, or the discount rate loses to one who can. That is the single most reliable divider between salespeople who survive a subsidy change and those who do not, because every subsidy change rewrites the spreadsheet rather than the product.

Regulatory literacy has the same effect in reverse. German account managers who understood the shift from fixed feed-in tariffs to direct marketing kept their commercial pipelines when the tariff logic changed; the American residential market in 2026 is running the same experiment with third-party ownership.

Where the field is hiring

Berlin leads by volume, followed by Hamburg, Amsterdam, Munich, and the smaller Bavarian manufacturing towns where the distribution businesses sit. Houston and London carry the English-language commercial roles. Compensation is usually split between base and commission, with the split widening toward commission as the deal moves from residential to enterprise.

Germany's 3 GW annual shortfall against its own target is the clearest demand signal in the field: it sits in the commercial rooftop and ground-mounted segments, which are sold rather than ordered, and those are precisely the accounts that need someone to own them.
