Energy Asset Management Jobs in Renewable Energy

Energy asset management is the technical and commercial stewardship of operating power assets, such as wind farms, solar parks, battery systems, hydro plants, and networks, so that they produce the output, revenue, and lifetime their owners paid for. The job begins where construction ends, and the volume of operating capacity it covers keeps growing. Global energy transition investment reached a record $2.3 trillion in 2025, according to BloombergNEF, and every commissioned project joins a portfolio that someone has to run for 25 years or more.

Technical and commercial asset managers

The role splits along two lines, and job titles usually say which. A technical asset manager tracks availability, yield against the budget, and component health, reads SCADA and performance data to find underperforming turbines or strings, and holds O&M contractors and OEMs to their service agreements and warranties. A commercial asset manager looks after revenue: power purchase agreements, merchant exposure, grid and balancing charges, insurance, land leases, and reporting to lenders and investors. In smaller firms one person does both, which is why the most common title on Rejobs is simply asset manager.

This is not financial asset management in the fund-industry sense, and it is not HR performance management either. The skill that defines the job is translating a plant's engineering data into money: explaining to an investor why a wind farm missed its P50 forecast (the output expected in an average year) and what fixing it will cost.

Who hires

Utilities and independent power producers hire the largest teams. Ørsted and Vattenfall run asset management functions across offshore wind and other generation, EDP Renewables and BayWa r.e. manage multi-country wind and solar fleets from hubs such as Madrid and Munich, and Danish developer European Energy hires asset managers for the wind, solar, and Power-to-X plants it keeps in operation. In the United States, Clearway Energy Group is among the most active recruiters. Network companies such as Transgrid and Enexis, and hydro operators Snowy Hydro and Hydro Tasmania, use the same title for engineers who plan maintenance and replacement across ageing grid and hydro assets.

Battery storage has created its own branch. BESS field managers and commercial asset managers for storage portfolios now appear regularly in German and British listings, and the work leans heavily on Battery Energy Storage Systems knowledge: state of health, degradation warranties, and the trading strategies that decide how hard a battery is cycled.

Ageing fleets and what they mean for the job

Asset management gets harder, and more valuable, as fleets age. Wind software company Shoreline estimates that almost 30% of Europe's installed wind capacity, 86 GW, will approach 20 years of operation by 2030. For each of those sites, the asset manager prepares the decision between life extension, repowering with larger turbines, or decommissioning, weighing inspection results and remaining subsidy periods against the cost of new equipment. That work draws on Wind Operations & Maintenance data on one side and Power Purchase Agreements on the other.

Candidates who combine an engineering background with commercial literacy move fastest, often from O&M, performance engineering, or project finance. Hamburg, London, Berlin, Glasgow, and Madrid are the main European hiring centres, and people who can run the numbers on a repowering case will find that the 2030 end-of-life wave keeps them in demand.
