What They Do
IEEFA is a nonprofit think tank specializing in financial and economic research focused on energy markets and the global transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources. Their work includes producing market-based reports that critically analyze weaknesses in fossil fuel investments while highlighting opportunities in renewable energy sectors (source: ieefa.org). The organization provides timely financial analyses, collects data on renewable energy transitions such as power distribution efficiency and smart grid modernization in India, and offers strategic support to campaigns and financial literacy training for advocates (source: macfound.org). Their target audiences include investors, governments, utilities, businesses, communities, and citizen groups worldwide, all served through a nonpartisan, evidence-based approach that challenges misinformation on energy solutions (source: ieefa.org). IEEFA's unique strength lies in its fusion of expertise across investment decision-making, utility planning, banking, economic policy, public relations, and campaign development, delivered by a distributed international team spanning Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and South Asia (source: ieefa.org).
Projects & Track Record
Since 2015, IEEFA has played a significant role in influencing India's renewable energy transition through detailed financial assessments of power distribution efficiency, renewable investment competitiveness, and the unviability of fossil fuels. Their research has supported electrification efforts and infrastructure development for smart grids and alternative power sources in India (source: macfound.org). Globally, IEEFA's analyses have informed investor assessments of energy risks and benefits, supported citizen advocacy on energy issues, and contributed to shifts in capital investment rules within both public and private sectors. Notably, they have produced case studies on global utilities transitioning from coal to renewables, demonstrating their influence on energy policy and investment decisions worldwide (source: ieefa.org). Their work is supported by key partnerships including foundation grants such as those from the MacArthur Foundation and collaborations with news organizations that frequently cite their reports (source: wikipedia.org).
Recent Developments
In recent years, IEEFA has expanded its global presence with active research teams and personnel located across North America, Asia, Australia, Europe, and South Asia, enhancing its capacity to influence energy economics worldwide (source: ieefa.org). The organization continues to secure foundation grants and contracts that support its mission, maintaining a robust annual budget to fund its research and advocacy efforts (source: ieefa.org). Additionally, IEEFA has recently posted job openings for specialized roles such as Financial Analyst positions based in Europe and Media Relations Manager roles, reflecting its ongoing growth and commitment to flexible, remote work arrangements (source: ieefa.org).
Working There
IEEFA offers a variety of flexible employment opportunities including part-time, hybrid, 100% remote, and freelance roles primarily in communications, nonprofit philanthropy, environmental and green sectors, as well as media and journalism. Positions range from Financial Analysts requiring extensive experience and strong analytical skills to Accounting Controllers based at the Cleveland headquarters managing financial operations, payroll, and audits (source: ieefa.org). The organization fosters a collaborative culture supported by a small headquarters staff in Cleveland that manages global consultants and hiring processes centrally, emphasizing self-starter qualities and long-distance supervision capabilities for remote roles (source: ieefa.org). Benefits and competitive salaries are offered commensurate with experience, with some roles requiring travel, such as to New York for certain administrative duties (source: ieefa.org).
