Approximately 21,000 employees across Europe (source: group.vattenfall.com). Revenue of €16.5 billion in FY 2023 (source: energydigital.com).

What They Do

Vattenfall is a leading European energy company focused on renewable energy production and distribution. The company has a rich history that began with hydroelectric power and has evolved to include a diverse portfolio of energy sources, including offshore and onshore wind, nuclear power, and heat networks. Vattenfall operates approximately 139,000 km of power lines in Sweden, serving around 900,000 customers, and is recognized as the second largest energy company in Sweden and the largest offshore wind operator in Denmark (source: group.vattenfall.com). Their commitment to fossil-free electricity and heat production is evident in their ongoing projects and strategic focus on transitioning away from fossil fuels.

Projects & Track Record

Vattenfall has a notable track record of significant projects, including the historic Olidan hydroelectric plant in Trollhättan, which was Sweden's largest by the early 1900s, and the Porjus Power Plant, operational since 1915. In recent years, they have expanded their offshore wind capabilities with projects like Horns Rev 1 and 3 in Denmark, and the Vesterhav North and South farms, which opened in autumn 2024. Additionally, Vattenfall has developed nine hydro power plants in Finland and has been involved in 13 wind and battery storage projects in the UK since 2008, showcasing their commitment to renewable energy across multiple regions (source: history.vattenfall.com). Their ongoing projects include the Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm in Denmark and the Korsnäs offshore wind farm in Finland, which supports carbon neutrality goals by 2035.

Recent Developments

In the past two years, Vattenfall has celebrated its 115th anniversary, emphasizing its commitment to fossil-free energy and announcing plans to phase out coal by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2040 under the leadership of CEO Anna Borg. The company has also successfully opened the Vesterhav North and South offshore wind farms in Denmark in autumn 2024, marking a significant milestone in their renewable energy initiatives (source: group.vattenfall.com). While no specific new contracts or acquisitions were reported for 2023-2024, Vattenfall continues to focus on its operational milestones and ongoing developments in offshore wind energy.

Working There

Vattenfall offers a variety of roles across its operations, including energy production in hydro, wind, and nuclear sectors, as well as grid operations and retail services. The company employs approximately 500 staff in Denmark and the UK, focusing on offshore wind and heat networks, and has active hiring in locations such as Solna (Sweden HQ), Kolding (Denmark HQ), and various cities in the UK and Finland (source: group.vattenfall.com). The company culture is characterized by long-term state ownership, fostering stability and collaboration, particularly through historic Nordic power coordination efforts that date back to its founding in 1909. This culture supports Vattenfall's adaptation to energy transitions and its commitment to promoting fossil-free energy solutions.

Job Description

As part of BA Wind you will play a key role in one of the most exciting pipelines in the industry with 24GW of capacity stretching out more than a decade ahead across our key European markets.

You won't only be involved in developing projects but pioneering cutting-edge innovation, new business models and ways of working with communities and the environment. Working as part of a leading European utility also means you could be helping a growing number of major businesses and brands achieve their own sustainability goals through partnerships.

Do you want to help shape the commercial foundation of fossil‑free energy?

We are now offering an exciting opportunity as a Commercial Manager, where you'll help support Vattenfall's assets and partners on the journey toward a fossil‑free future.

As a Commercial Manager, you will join the Commercial Management team, and within it, the Commercial Operations team - a function dedicated to strengthening O&M commercial maturity, optimizing contract coverage, ensuring compliance, and driving continuous cost improvements across our assets.

In this role, you support the day‑to‑day commercial operations of minimum two offshore sites and act as a key point of contact for contractual and commercial matters within Generation. You contribute to managing operational contracts - from facility lease agreements to technician service contracts - ensuring clear oversight, strong governance, and smooth execution across stakeholders.

You provide commercial insights, structured analysis, and contract follow‑up that help sites deliver on their operational plans and business targets. A key part of the role is contributing to the continuous improvement and standardization of commercial processes, identifying cost‑saving opportunities, and supporting the team's ambition to enhance commercial performance across the organisation.

By joining Commercial Operations, you become part of a team committed to operational excellence, contractual robustness, and ongoing optimisation of day‑to‑day commercial activities. The team's main target is to ensure that our contractual landscape is well‑managed, compliant, and cost‑efficient - enabling our sites to operate reliably, safely, and profitably.

What will you do?

As a Commercial Manager, you will be a key commercial partner to Site Management and an integral member of the Commercial Management and Commercial Operations teams. You will help ensure smooth, compliant and commercially robust operations across our offshore assets by providing commercial insight, contractual guidance and proactive stakeholder support. You will independently manage defined scopes of work while strengthening commercial governance, contract performance and cost efficiency across the sites.

Your tasks and responsibilities

Commercial Management

  • Provide Site Management with commercial and contractual advice, ensuring strong support for both operational and strategic decisions.
  • Deliver structured commercial analysis and clear contract overviews to enable effective daily operations.
  • Identify, assess and follow up on commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Support optimization of active contracts, including cost tracking and identification of savings potential.
  • Contribute to commercial planning, budgeting and performance reviews.
  • Take part in negotiations for new and existing contracts to secure favorable commercial outcomes.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations and maintain strong relationships across site teams, Procurement, Engineering, Asset Management and other key interfaces.

Contract Management

  • Support the implementation of contract management methodology and best practices.
  • Monitor agreements, obligations and prerequisites between client, suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Maintain strong relationships with contractors and support smooth day‑to‑day contract execution.
  • Coordinate documentation for service campaigns, variations and claims.
  • Support dispute management, including preparation of claims, analysis, and participation in negotiations to reach commercially sound resolutions.

Processes, Reporting & Standardization

  • Prepare or contribute to commercial and contractual reports, KPIs and cost tracking.
  • Support improvements and standardization of commercial processes across assets.
  • Contribute to internal documentation, templates and tools to strengthen commercial maturity and operational consistency.
  • Ensure lessons learned are implemented and shared across relevant stakeholders.

Qualifications

You thrive in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities and multiple stakeholders. You are commercially strong, contractually confident and able to navigate both big-picture discussions and detailed contract follow‑up. Structure comes naturally to you, even when juggling many tasks and you adapt quickly to new situations.

You communicate comfortably at all organizational levels and build trust easily, whether interacting with site teams, suppliers or management.

Next to this you bring

  • A degree in a commercial, legal, engineering or similar discipline
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in contract, commercial or procurement roles - preferably in renewables, energy, oil & gas, or other complex industries
  • Experience interpreting, managing, supporting and negotiating commercial agreements supported by a strong commercial mindset
  • Experience with operational renewable energy assets
  • Ability to manage many tasks simultaneously with structure and prioritization
  • Experience working with suppliers and external stakeholders
  • Must be able to manage and negotiate contracts in English and Dutch (firm requirements)

Location: Amsterdam (Netherlands), Kolding (Denmark), Hamburg (Germany) or London (UK)
