What They Do

Neoen Australia operates as the Australian arm of the French renewable energy company Neoen, focusing on the development, financing, construction, and operation of renewable energy assets. The company specializes in solar photovoltaic (PV) farms, onshore wind farms, and battery energy storage systems (BESS), playing a pioneering role in integrating large-scale grid-support storage into hybrid projects that combine generation and dispatchable power (source: neoen.com). Their services encompass the entire lifecycle of energy projects, often secured through power purchase agreements (PPAs), such as the baseload PPA for the 412 MW Goyder wind farm paired with the Blyth Battery, which ensures a reliable energy supply to off-takers (source: neoen.com). Neoen Australia targets utility-scale markets, serving grid operators like ElectraNet and AEMO, as well as corporate off-takers and retail energy providers, emphasizing competitive levelized costs of energy through efficient project execution (source: wikipedia.org). The company differentiates itself through end-to-end project control, global scale, and innovation in BESS technology, such as the expansion of the Hornsdale facility, which has positioned it ahead of competitors in the renewable energy sector (source: wikipedia.org).

Projects & Track Record

Neoen Australia has been involved in several high-profile projects that showcase its capabilities in renewable energy. Notable completed projects include the Hornsdale Power Reserve in South Australia, which features a 150 MW/193.5 MWh BESS and was commissioned in 2017, later expanded in 2020 to become the world's first large-scale Tesla battery providing frequency control services (source: wikipedia.org). Another significant project is the Victorian Big Battery, which has a capacity of 300 MW/450 MWh and was commissioned in December 2021, although it was divested to HMC Capital in August 2025 (source: wikipedia.org). The Western Downs Green Power Hub in Queensland is also noteworthy, featuring Australia's largest solar farm at 460 MWp alongside the Western Downs Battery with a capacity of 212 MW/424 MWh (source: neoen.com). Ongoing projects include the Goyder South Stage 1 wind farm (412 MW) and the Collie Battery, which is set to be one of the world's most powerful BESS at 219 MW/877 MWh, highlighting Neoen's commitment to expanding its renewable energy footprint (source: wikipedia.org).

Recent Developments

In recent years, Neoen Australia has undergone significant changes and developments. In early 2024, Brookfield Asset Management announced the full acquisition of Neoen's share capital, which included the regulatory-mandated divestment of the Victorian Big Battery to HMC Capital on August 1, 2025 (source: wikipedia.org). Additionally, the company executed a €750 million capital increase in March 2023 aimed at boosting its capacity by 50%, particularly focusing on storage solutions (source: neoen.com). Construction has commenced on several major projects, including the Collie Battery and Goyder South Stage 1, with expectations for operational launches in 2024-2025 (source: neoen.com). By September 2025, Neoen aims to reach a total capacity of 8.5 GW, reflecting a significant growth trajectory since its IPO in 2018 (source: wikipedia.org).
