Arup's Building Services Engineers tackle diverse challenges - from sustainable strategies to fire suppression systems, mechanical design and CFD analysis for data center project, and from drainage in high-rise buildings to supplying ultra-pure water and piping specialist gases and fluids for healthcare, science and industry facilities. Together with our mechanical and electrical engineers, we provide integrated building services to our clients.

The Opportunity

The Building Services (MEP) team has been growing consistently in the last 3 years, working on iconic buildings in the Netherlands and in Europe, on a diverse range of projects including Stadia, Luxury Hotels, Offices, Commercial, Healthcare, Science and Industry and Educational projects. The role offers excellent prospects for career development and the opportunity to be involved in different and challenging range of design projects. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in our Building Services Engineering team, contributing to multidisciplinary projects. You'll provide guidance to graduates and oversee the work and development of apprentices involved in your projects. Based in our Amsterdam office, you'll be part of a team of over 20 mechanical engineers and technicians.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Arup, you will

  • Lead the design and delivery of mechanical services (heating, ventilation, air conditioning, drainage, water supply, firefighting, renewable energy systems and controls) and manage key interfaces in multidisciplinary projects and teams.
  • Liaise with clients to assist in setting the design ambitions and with project stakeholders to develop the design and the coordination of the mechanical requirements and their impact on the project.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentor and develop junior team members, fostering a culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Participate in site visits, client meetings, design reviews and project workshops, gaining valuable industry exposure.
  • Cooperate closely with our international offices.

  • Degree from an Engineering University (Building /Mechanical /Energy/ other relevant) or a relevant technical Diploma.
  • 8+ years of professional experience into the design and delivery of mechanical services.
  • Sound knowledge in mechanical engineering fundamentals including knowledge of Dutch codes and planning phases.
  • Ability to technically lead and manage the design process from conceptual layout to detailed design and construction.
  • Excellent knowledge of sustainability principles.
  • Excellent planning and organisation skills.
  • Good level of written and spoken English and Dutch skills.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Good knowledge of CAD and/or Building Information Modelling.
  • Interest in sustainability
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills with an eagerness to learn and apply new concepts.
  • Availability to travel within the region (Europe).
