Industry Engagement Manager
Greenlight America
Company Overview
Greenlight America, an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization
Washington, D.C., United States
2023
Approximately 20 employees across the United States (source: influencewatch.org)
What They Do
Greenlight America focuses on mobilizing local support for utility-scale clean energy projects, including solar, wind, and battery storage, by building the "human infrastructure" necessary for the clean energy transition rather than manufacturing technology (source: theenergymix.com). Their core services include an early warning system that alerts local groups about critical clean energy meetings, a partnership network to educate and activate local advocates, and campaign execution support to empower residents in advocating effectively for renewable projects (source: volts.wtf). Targeting local residents, community groups, and clean energy developers, Greenlight America aims to overcome siting and permitting challenges often dominated by vocal opposition (source: theenergymix.com). Their self-described "YIMBY for clean energy" stance actively organizes the silent majority that supports renewable energy, contrasting with typical "NIMBY" opposition (source: insideclimatenews.org).
Projects & Track Record
Since its founding, Greenlight America has helped advance more than 25 gigawatts of clean power to the grid, a capacity roughly 13 times that of the Hoover Dam (source: idealist.org). In the last year alone, the organization supported local groups in advancing 4.4 gigawatts of clean energy projects (source: volts.wtf). Their portfolio is primarily composed of solar projects, followed by onshore and offshore wind and battery storage initiatives (source: linkedin.com). Greenlight America collaborates with local leaders nationwide, working alongside national and state partners to support clean energy developments across the United States (source: greenlightamerica.org).
Recent Developments
Since its launch in 2023, Greenlight America has rapidly grown, raising $5 million in philanthropic funding and expanding its staff to approximately 20 employees (source: insideclimatenews.org). In January 2024, the organization conducted its first campaign, marking the start of its active efforts to win permits for clean energy projects (source: linkedin.com). Greenlight America has been recognized in major media outlets such as Inside Climate News and The Energy Mix for its innovative role in reshaping project permit hearings and mobilizing local support (source: theenergymix.com). CEO and co-founder Matt Traldi has featured in podcasts like "Climate Positive" and "Volts," discussing the organization's strategy to map local decisions and reduce permitting friction (source: youtube.com).
Working There
Greenlight America offers roles in grassroots campaigning, industry engagement, communications, and public policy, reflecting its focus on community organizing and clean energy advocacy (source: idealist.org). Current openings include an Industry Content Senior Associate based in Washington, D.C., a remote role with occasional travel, and a Clean Energy Organizer position focused on the California Central Coast (source: greenjobsearch.org). The Industry Content Senior Associate role offers a salary range of $60,000 to $85,000 annually, with a base target of $75,000 to $100,000 depending on experience (source: idealist.org). The company culture emphasizes systems-building, documentation, and community organizing, positioning itself as a leading grassroots campaign force (source: greenjobsearch.org). Benefits include fully employer-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance premiums, unlimited paid time off, a monthly technology stipend, and retirement contributions through 401k and Roth plans (source: idealist.org). Teams consist of grassroots campaigners, clean energy experts, public policy professionals, communications specialists, and coalition builders working collaboratively across the United States (source: greenlightamerica.org).
