Administration Jobs in Renewable Energy
Administration roles keep renewable energy companies running. While engineers design turbines and technicians maintain solar arrays, administrative professionals handle the contracts, schedules, permits, and daily operations that determine whether projects actually get built on time and within budget.
What These Roles Look Like
The most common titles in this space are Office Manager, Administrative Assistant, Executive Assistant, and Office Coordinator. But the reality is more varied. Document controllers manage thousands of technical files across multi-year wind farm projects. Branch coordinators keep regional offices running for companies with assets spread across continents. HR administrators handle onboarding in a sector where headcount can double in a single year.
Project coordinators sit at an interesting intersection: part admin, part project management. In renewable energy, this hybrid role is particularly common because projects involve dozens of stakeholders, from landowners and grid operators to environmental agencies and equipment suppliers.
Who's Hiring
German companies dominate admin hiring in European renewables. naturstrom AG, a green energy supplier with over 1,000 employees, and UKA Umweltgerechte Kraftanlagen, a wind and solar developer, both consistently post admin roles. BayWa r.e. and GOLDBECK SOLAR are other major European employers in this space, with Voltalia recruiting across France and Southern Europe and Iberdrola Renewables hiring in Spain and the UK.
Hamburg, Berlin, Munich, London, and Prague are the top European locations. Globally, Singapore has emerged as a hub for renewables administration in Asia-Pacific, while Sydney and Montreal also see steady demand.
The Numbers Behind the Growth
Global energy sector employment reached 76 million in 2024, growing at 2.2%, nearly double the economy-wide rate, according to the IEA's World Energy Employment 2025 report. IRENA's 2025 review counts 16.6 million renewable energy jobs worldwide. Europe accounts for over 2 million of these, with Germany, Spain, Italy, and Poland as the largest EU employers.
Growth has been strongest outside Europe: India's energy employment grew 5.8% in 2024, and the country now has close to one million renewable energy jobs. Asia-Pacific renewable energy investment is projected to exceed $1 trillion by 2026. In Australia, around 30,000 workers are employed in renewables, with hydrogen export infrastructure creating new admin and logistics roles. The US clean energy sector, by contrast, faced headwinds in 2025, with over 100 project cancellations worth $36 billion linked to policy uncertainty.
For every engineer or technician hired, companies need administrative staff to manage compliance, procurement, and internal operations. In manufacturing firms, roughly two-thirds of the workforce sits outside direct production, in sales, admin, and management functions.
A Gateway for Career Changers
Administration is one of the most accessible entry points into renewable energy. The core skills, organisation, communication, scheduling, and document management, transfer directly from other industries. What changes is the context: you learn about grid connections, permitting timelines, power purchase agreements, and environmental impact assessments on the job.
Women hold 58% of administrative positions in solar PV, making these roles one of the more gender-balanced segments in a sector where women represent just 32% of the overall workforce.
What's Changing
Over half of energy companies globally report critical hiring bottlenecks, particularly in technical roles. This puts additional pressure on administrative teams to coordinate recruitment, manage onboarding, and keep expanding organisations functional. AI tools are beginning to handle routine admin tasks like permit tracking and document classification, freeing up administrators to focus on coordination and stakeholder management. The role is evolving from pure support to operational backbone, whether you're in Berlin, Mumbai, or Sydney.
