Projects & Track Record

Locogen has an impressive track record in the renewable energy sector, having supported the construction and commissioning of Scotland's largest shared ownership wind farm in 2024, as well as the UK's largest refurbished wind farm in 2022. They also played a crucial role in developing three wind farms for Orkney Island Council in 2022, which were essential for securing investment in the Orkney interconnector (source: locogen.com). In 2023, Locogen secured planning consent for Scotland’s largest solar farm co-located with battery energy storage, along with an additional 100MWp of solar projects across the UK. They provided construction support for Greater Manchester Council's large-scale ground-mounted solar projects, showcasing their capability in handling significant renewable energy initiatives (source: locogen.com). Furthermore, Locogen has assisted clients in securing Contracts for Difference (CfDs) for over 300MWp of projects in Allocation Round 6 (AR6) in 2024, demonstrating their effectiveness in navigating complex funding landscapes (source: locogen.com). Their involvement in the Arbikie green hydrogen facility and securing Scottish Government funding for multiple green hydrogen projects further highlights their commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions (source: locogen.com).

Recent Developments

In the past two years, Locogen has made significant strides in the renewable energy sector, including the construction of Scotland's largest shared ownership wind farm and securing CfD wins for over 300MWp in AR6 (2024). They also achieved planning consents for Scotland’s largest solar-plus-storage farm and an additional 100MWp of solar projects in 2023, showcasing their growth and adaptability in a rapidly evolving market (source: locogen.com). Additionally, they advanced green hydrogen initiatives through the Arbikie consent obtained in 2022, which is pivotal for the future of sustainable energy in Scotland (source: locogen.com). In 2021, they received DESNZ funding for long-duration storage feasibility co-located with solar PV, indicating ongoing discussions and developments in this area (source: locogen.com). While there have been no documented acquisitions or mergers in the past two years, the company has continued to grow its team and enhance its capabilities, reflecting a strong commitment to the renewable energy sector (source: locogen.com).

Job Description

Are you an experienced people professional looking for a part-time role with real variety and genuine impact?

We're a renewable energy consultancy of around 45 people, doing work that matters - and we're looking for a Head of People to cover a period of maternity leave for our Director of People & Strategy. Rather than a like-for-like cover, this role focuses on the people function specifically - giving us the senior people leadership we need while also creating space to make real progress on some priorities that matter to us.

This isn't a role where you'll be buried in process or managing a large team - but you will need to be comfortable rolling your sleeves up when needed. It's a senior, relationship-led position where you'll be the people voice in the room - advising our SLT and CEO, handling situations that need real senior people experience, and helping us make meaningful progress on some priorities we're genuinely excited about. In a team of 45 you'll need to be both strategic and hands-on, sometimes in the same week.

What you'll be doing

You'll act as people business partner to our Senior Leadership Team and Heads of Department - attending meetings, contributing to decisions, and being the go-to for anything that needs a senior people perspective. You'll own complex employee relations matters, oversee our recruitment activity, and keep our people governance and policies in good shape.

You'll also line manage our People Experience Manager, who is stepping up into an expanded role during this period.

And alongside the day-to-day, there's a real opportunity to lead on some meaningful people projects - things like developing our EVP and starting to build our approach to DEI. The exact scope will be agreed with you when you join, shaped around your expertise and our priorities.

What we're looking for

You'll have solid senior generalist people experience - ideally as a People Business Partner or Head of People - and you'll know what good looks like in a small, fast-moving organisation. You won't need a big team around you to do your best work, and you'll be comfortable building trust quickly with people at all levels.

You're pragmatic, calm under pressure, and the kind of person who brings clarity to people situations rather than complexity. You communicate well - in writing and in person - and you understand the difference between being a senior advisor and rolling up your sleeves for everything.

The nice to haves

Experience in professional services or consultancy, exposure to DEI, EVP or management development work, and any H&S knowledge are all welcomed - but none are dealbreakers.
